Thread regarding Ford layoffs

How can we do confidential work with RTW rules?

I am in finance and work on Ford Confidential and Secret financials. But under RTW rules GSRs have no access to an office like I used to have. Does Ford leadership expect me to work in a open area with everybody around so they can see what I am working on? If I decide to go to the bathroom or out to lunch does Ford expect me to pack everything up and take it with me and then come back unpack and go back to work. Leadership must give people a secure place to work or let them keep working from home. JF and DF have no F-ing clue what they are doing and out of touch with how work gets done. Glade I am young enough to find a new job with competent leadership.

so this is directed at this audience, and not your supervisor?

RTO (return to office) does not exist, Ford LL2+ eliminated all the offices and cubes (except theirs). RTW (return to work) is more accurate or maybe RTN (return to nothing).

You might and if so you can always say hi sometime. Can't deny that strategic placement of coat racks, whiteboards, monitors, etc is active problem solving and one way to try to reduce the misery that is an open office floor plan. Might have to make some horse bilnders to attach to the active noise cancellation headset. Maybe also take up humming and talking to myself too, but only when in uncomfortable situations like hot desked out in the open.

RTW ? You mean RT'O', right ? Or do you mean you haven't been working this whole time and only now want to Return to WORK ? :) I just don't want to return to the office - I like working and work smart/hard EVERY DAY.

To bad @1vrg is full of bovine processed hay, since an actual office while there, even if on a 1st come, 1st served basis, was the case it wouldn't be to bad. Best case scenario will be that your whole team comes in together and is able to use a conference room all day. Below that is coordinating reserving open office spots in a cluster. Worst will be when end up stuck hot-desked right on a major walk way near entrances or rest-rooms since that's all that you could find available.

I hated the open office layout, but at least with an assigned spot I was able to put up a pair of good monitors and some "walls" to reduce the amount of visual distractions. Cube farm before that was bad, but at least tolerable since I wasn't being treated like livestock.

@OP if you are in finance you were likely @ FMCC or @ GlassHouse in a cubicle pre WTF.
You were also likely instructed to clear your desk and lock everything up including your laptop before leaving your cube for break/lunch/evening. You will do the same with RTW except you will lock in the designated secure lockers.
Do you not recall the people getting written up for not locking up secure info in their cube when they stepped away for a break? The same spot checking team will be employed to attempt to catch security lax employees.

Not to be snarky, but in a random seat in a sea of people, how would anyone know you have secret stuff? Are you that easily recognized? I worked for a year in a department where I never saw or met any of my co workers so they would not even know I worked with them, let alone anyone outside my department that would know what I was working on. Other than flipping a paper upside down when you hit the restroom, and locking the computer, I wouldn't take any other actions. If management is that worried they can provide a top secret room for your department to work in.

I heard you guys will get private spaces in the office. Everyone is going back no matter what by the end of the first quarter. Got that from my people person.

Cycle plan team raised this issue when they were considering the open office environment. Concern was dismissed. Team was told you pack up your desk and lock up items when you have to get up. No answer for private phone calls. In reality what happened was people camping out in the small conference rooms.

Most everyone's work is confidential. If your work is truly "Secret," your management would have provided you with specific instructions. Sounds like you just report to work, open office setting, do your job.

Pre-Covid, you were a GSR with an office? What building?

Haha - Ford is done if young white collar cannot figure out how to go to the bathroom and collaborate again as a team.

What do you do when your shoes become untied at work? Do you ask permission on what to do or can you think for yourself in that situation too?

I would assume your management is coherent enough to understand this and let you work at home?
