Manager to individual contributor

As part of re org, I noticed that some associates who were previously managers are now individual contributors. Was this a demotion or a lateral move? If it was a lateral move, does that mean their salary remained the same?

The silly thing is that 'managers' do nothing but talk, while 'employees' do all of the work. My 2c is that 'managers' are overpaid secretaries and should be beneath all employees. They really are bottom dwelling sc-m su-kers. You know that!!!!

If their title didn’t change then neither did their comp. It’s not really a demotion or a lateral move, it’s just structural changes, flattening out layers of management. If their title changed, they probably keep their base salary but their bonus percentage does change.
