And more importantly, why isn't a company-wide hiring freeze implemented? I know the world and work can't stop while we wait to become part of Broadcom, but at the same time, we have to admit that things are not as usual and that some changes need to be made. Honestly, why add more people when we all know most of them will be laid off or even fired within months when the acquisition is final?

Why are people still joining VMware?
Probably the same reason people join any other company:
Some have bills to pay and don't have other sources of making a living.
Others probably need to gain experience or work their last few years until retirement.
And some might be like an architect I know. Dude left a job after a few years to get a MBA and was never able to find another architect job or a job that could pay for the MBA.
After 6 years of sitting at home, I am sure he is exactly the kind of guy at who will jump at an opportunity. Unfortunately, a few years of being out of the workforce makes some people not to ever want to rejoin.
It's just another workplace and it has perks that still attract talent.
Perks? Like what?
361 openings listed right now.
- 116 Engineering & Technology
- 81 Services and Consulting
- 72 Sales
- 37 Client Support
- 22 Business Strategy and Opperations
- 21 Marketing
- 5 Finance
- 3 HR
- 2 General and administrative
*1 University and recent grads
Not sure if they're real openings or not...
Is required in office work with badge checks a perk ?
Hiring doesn't mean net-new positions, it also means backfills. Of course VMware is going to backfill the many people who left this year. Not all positions, but many.
We are still getting many new hires, and TONS of CVs for open positions. Regardless of the doom and gloom that people here have, the situation is actually not as bad as what others are in. Two new hires on our team were fine with Broadcom because they've been through much worse in the past.
Stop thinking that the sky is falling and this is the worst place ever. It's not. It's just another workplace and it has perks that still attract talent.
Why note shut it down? More power to the people!
Spot on! @wzu+1kwS1OGi
If you are laid off and need work, been out of work for a month or two, a pay check now looks pretty good.
That mortgage isnt going pay itself.
as far as WHY we are hiring. I am betting if you could get a list of all the hires you would see it is in places that A: have lost some people and actually need to backfill and B: are in a BU or area that Broadcom will probably keep.
Can't just shut down the business.
Depends on the BU some areas that are contracted are still hiring. TAM, ps, GS etc still need people to fulfill the contracts and generate revenue. Some BUs that are going to be sold are probably the ones with the freezes right now.
Why do this? People don’t matter, that’s why. They are a disposable means to an end. You will always find people to join no matter what state a company is in.
I am surprised about two things.
A. VMware still hiring
B. People still joining
For A - they KNOW there'll be layoffs so it just shows the ignorance the leadership shows on all staff meetings that apparently 'everything is ok'. Pi---s me right off.
For B - I get it, and I don't. Basically we had people join this month that were on 12 weeks notice and their previous employer refused to keep them after they resigned. So they have no choice despite them clearly knowing what is going on (which is reflected in calls where they are already worry about their job having just started).
For others that resigned 2-4 weeks ago and join VMware - them can't be helped ... Again I get it if they are graduates, young guys, VMware is first job etc. - but people with 10-20 years experience in the industry ? I don't get it - their fault ... they deserve whatever comes.
In my area there is a hiring freeze even for backfill, EMEA - no T&E budget
