Thread regarding Fidelity National Information Services Inc. layoffs

Severance makes it bearable

I'd rather not get laid off, but with decent severance I'd manage. I've seen plenty of jobs out there. The market's not as dead as some folks are making it out to be.

@12b I understand. I was a few months away from retirement and chose that route. No severance but I am free of the grief.

@a2 I was one month short of 20 years, rebadged instead of severance. I am only a few years from retirement- I could have used that money. Just doing the best I can and trying to up skill before they start ending contracts - that is all we can do. Good luck to all.

I've never heard, "Go touch grass"? Do you mean, the grass isn't always greener on the other side?

You are delusional. The market is terrible and it does take a long time to get a new job. Go touch grass.

With over 30 years at FIS, they were very generous with the severance that I received. I have retired now and will be paid for the next entire year. Thank you FIS.

@b0 it’s brutal for everyone. I’ve been technical and tech adjacent. If you’re going to do anything with this time, research ATS and tailor that resume. Your goal is straight forward: speak to a human. I fully expect to be interviewing with an AI avatar within the coming months just as my devs have been. Many job postings are fake. Very low response rate after 2 years largely due to low tailoring to ATS. The application and interview process is nothing like it was less than a decade ago. It’s a disgrace.

Job market blows and so do the listed salaries.

@OP I have no idea what the job market for non-software developers looks like, but it's brutal for software developers now. Almost every company is laying off developers to move to AI, so there are hundreds if not thousands of people looking for the same jobs. Not only ATS filters out resumes, but AI reviewers also do the filtering. You get to talk to an AI reviewer for maybe 10 minutes, and you then have to take a technical assessment test if you pass the AI screening. The assessment itself takes 60-90 minutes. If you pass all that, you might get to talk to a human recruiter. It's so weird interviewing with an AI because you don't know what words you can use so it can understand you.

You have zero experience in searching for a role. Plenty of jobs?? Around 99% of those are fake jobs because firms have to use their credits for posting or lose them. The 1% that’s available is with competition from 100K’s of people in the same boat looking for a job. On top of that you have ATS systems and AI filtering to disqualify you. You’re in for a rude awakening if you think you can quickly find a role after being laid off. Even if you do, awesome, but you would be in the 0% club.

I have to say that I respectfully disagree about the job market. I was part of the layoffs in March and my separation date isn’t until 8/31 but I have been looking for a new position since the day I was notified and it has been brutal. Yes, I completely agree that there are jobs out there, but with all of the layoffs going on there are hundreds if not thousands of people competing for the same jobs that we are. I’ve been rejected after multiple interviews, ghosted and scammed by “recruiters“ on Indeed and LinkedIn, and have written and rewritten resumes and cover letters until my head spins. I don’t want to be the voice of negativity, but unfortunately, it’s the reality of the job market right now. However, after all of that, I’m grateful that FIS has given me the opportunity to hopefully find an employer that knows how to treat those of us that work hard every day. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you that are going through this incredibly uncertain and stressful time. I’m right in it with you but hopefully soon there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel for all of us, whatever that may look like.

True. My long tenure was like golden handcuffs to a toxic job I hated. Getting laid off was the best thing to happen for me. Unfortunately, most don't have decades worth of severance to fall back on.
