We know CVX moves in lockstep with XOM but after the fact and a little slower.

The only moves CVX needs to do in order to go toe to toe w/ XOM is somehow buying COP. That would literally make them even in most categories.

The US reputation and treatment of Australia in recent years is very low so won't happen. Actions have consequences.

Oil companies don't consolidate when oil prices are high. They wait until they are low, then pounce.
