My dad is in critical condition and I want to take long leave to take care of him

My dad is in Asia and I an a US citizen. He is in critical condition and I want to take long (1-2 months, probably 2 months) leave to take care of him. Is there any leave/policy for this type of situation?

Talk to your manager we are generally very flexible in these situations.

Speak with HR representative and they will let you know the available options, then discuss the situation with your manager. Your manager may allow you work from your home.

Yeah, uh, shouldn't you be checking with HR... They don't hide the policies from you. Open a ticket with them or call them. They will tell what programs are available, what options are and if you qualify for them in this circumstance.

A bunch of trolls on a layoff board is not where you want to get your HR info.

Sorry about your Dad. You can take 12 weeks unpaid under FMLA. But you are not totally exempt from a layoff or other type of termination as long as the action is not related to FMLA leave.
