Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

The grass is greener

Several months ago, I was impacted by a layoff. At the time, I took it in stride - it gave me the opportunity to step back from a role that had become increasingly unsustainable, with a heavy workload, a long commute, and an environment that wasn’t particularly energizing.

I’m now a few weeks into a new position, and the contrast has been meaningful. My workload is reasonable, my commute is under 30 minutes, I’m in a bright, thoughtfully designed workspace, and the role offers a flexible hybrid schedule with just three days in-office. On top of that, my compensation has increased by roughly 50% for a similar scope and title.

I share this simply to say: The grass is greener on the other side. There are strong opportunities out there. It’s worth taking the time to find the right fit rather than settling for what feels ‘good enough.’ Frankly, Walgreens hasn’t been ‘good enough’ for quite some time.

I have been out for awhile now. I found a new role. And for anyone reading this who is still at Walgreens, please find a way out. Do not stick it out, do not hold on (unless you're a year from retirement or can score a payout package, in which case get that money). The Walgreens modern ways of working is not tenable, and you do not need to suffer needlessly. Yes it's rough to find a role, especially when you are searching specifically, but begin your process, keep at it, and it will happen. Others in this thread confirm the normalcy of other roles vs Walgreens. The release of tension is worth even a horizontal move.

I agree! Found a much more fulfilling job there closer to home and pays $20K more than I was making at Walgreens!!
I was very scared and disheartened when I first got laid off but it has turned out to be a blessing!
The grass really IS greener elsewhere so don't be afraid to move on. There are MUCH better opportunities out there!!!

I also found a new job, that's fully remote, no longer need to commute all the way to Deerfield! Pays better! Has a better work life balance! And a supporting manager! Not to mention better pay!

Glad to hear things are going well for you. I was impacted in February and thankful I don't need to deal with my manager, long commute to Deerfield, and feeling my skills growing stagnant. I've taken a lot of training courses to upskill and can devote more time to a search for a more fulfilling job. Yes it can stressful looking for a new job but you just need to stay positive and change can be a good thing! Hang in there. Look for positions where you think you're a good fit and do a lot of networking. That's all you can really do.

It's ALWAYS been greener on the other side. Most can only get Walgreens to hire them.....that says it all in itself. And for the ones that bark at that...then why haven't you gone somewhere else to work. Walgreens treats you bad, runs the company into the ground, gets fines nonstop for ten years, unethical to the core.. And yet people stay with a company that has gone from$100 BILLION in assets to under $9 billion in assets and sells out to a bunch of vultures. Now why would you stay. Exactly that is why.
