Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Tons of spin on this earnings call...

Sounds like a lot of excuses as to why lower earnings isn't our fault.

Maybe someone should tell management to "stay resilient" and take ownership.

Pre-PDS earnings call has to be full of advisors and managers selling a rosy picture to management to build their PDS around. They only have to hold the line through a few months, then they can move to another role or blame someone beneath them that moved to another role.

Slate wiped clean for the new year. Performance resets as they say…

@ja the financial performance of the Corporation is on a 10 year average still underperforming CVX by quite a bit (even Shell and TTE perform better) and investors have actually better investment alternatives than XOM, despite improvement efforts (all table stakes) in last few years.

That performance was caused by some of the very poor investment decisions leading to financial underperforming assets made by the top of the organization (which also is the top of the ranking list) - how does removing the bottom of the ranking list improve when the Corporation continues to make poor investment (and organizational) decisions with same / similar people in charge?

As usual … penny wise, pound foolish …

@bk It is a relative assessement and on a relative scale the folks at the bottom perform worse than those at the top. As simple as that. If you rpelace those at the bottom, you lift the median performance of the entire organizsation. Very simple.

Own the message! That’s what supervisors are told to do when they have to give terrible performance assessment news in a system that forces people in the bottom even if they are good workers

What would it be like it you blamed your bottom tier contractor for why your project is in trouble.... Management would be smashing you over the head telling you it's your problem and it's your fault.

You didn't chose to use the cheapest contractor or cr-ppy India engineering but it's still your problem to solve... No excuses

I'd like someone to share examples of where management was held accountable.
