Who Remembers The Last Time?

With PARA approaching $16/share it reminds me that history might not repeat itself but it sure does rhyme. Only this time, content creators are eating Bob's lunch and there's no Hulu deal coming to bail us out.

November 4 2008:

Subject: On behalf of Bob Bakish - IMPORTANT Team: We are living in a time of unprecedented economic challenges. It is clear that the global economic slow down is real and will take us into next year. With that in mind, we need to dramatically reduce our spending for the balance of the year and for 2009. Senior managers across the regions and strategic services have been given this message and are in the process of identifying savings opportunities. As you know, we have suspended all hiring (including staff, temps and freelancers) and instituted significant restrictions on discretionary items such as on travel, entertainment, consulting, third party services and the like. I know these actions are not pleasant and delivering this message is not easy. However, it is the right thing to do. We, like others around us in media and the general business community, have no choice but to respond quickly to this difficult environment. It is only with this type of response that we can ensure our Brands will continue to prosper and provide our global consumers the innovative content they want and our partners the unique value they expect.

$11+ End of Feb 2023
About $7 billion. Lost total value of CBS $18 billion in the $30 billion merger and is now less than viacom was by itself

Para is only 3 yrs old - what difference does it make when the last time it was $16? Hey, you should be asking - when was the last time is was $30... Somebody trying to act smart buying at $16 because they follow whatever Berkshire Hathaway does... (Now the largest shareholder at 15% )
My oh my who cares when somebody buys a para stock? Hopefully most people don't own it outside of their 401k and whoever buys it via the 401k is buying it bi-weekly through paycheck - and hopefully not putting a large percentage of paycheck distribution in it

I shorted para at the top of the top g-n bear rally before it was downgraded by goldman sachs and it turned out to be my biggest gain of 2022. happy new year indeed.

just look at bzfd or idw performance for a sneak preview of what legacy media valuations are going to look like in 2023/2024. there is no guarantee any of these companies make it to 2025.
