To say that VMware always laid off is incorrect.
Under Diane Greene, I did not see any layoffs at all.
Under Paul Maritz, there were two layoffs, "due to economy" (aka 2008). After that spending and hiring went wild.
Under Pat Gelsinger, it was at least an annual event. --- First one was in December for the holidays wihch was really really bad for some people. The following years, they did it in January but have had a few extra ones.
Under Raghu Raghuram, we have not seen anything yet.
Some people really forget that they are responsible for their own future. Ignore Bcom. VMware ALWAYS laid people off once / twice a year. In fact, that’s life in todays’ tech industry.
I honestly think that the people here constantly worrying about their job either
- Know they are overpaid and are fully aware of the fact the industry won’t pay them for a similar job but they have adjusted their lifestyle accordingly and cannot afford to move
- Standstill for months or even years in terms of market trends and know their skills are out of date making it hard to move and got no choice but to gamble the fact they have to stay on
- Are young and / or never got laid off. Nothing here that can be done to make it easier. You just have to grow, onwards and upwards and keep going. It’s never easy but that’s life
- Are just blind and ignorant in terms of corporate life. Every company does that. Difference is that people like Magoo and Betty love to pretend nothing happens, ignore attrition lie. A LOT.
- Fell in love with VMware and now got ‘hurt’ or fear of getting ‘hurt’. Newsflash. They don’t care about you. You are a number and whilst you may feel like this is the best place you ever worked for and made friends bla bla - they drop you like a hot potato as soon as requires.
I suppose when you are like me, that has been through several acquisitions, Enterprise and Corporate bullsh-t - you just grow your hick skin.
In fact. If you make a graph about jobs. Time line and salary it likely looks like a sort of bell curve. It is never just up and up.
Don’t get content or lazy. Keep at it. Keep an eye on the industry. See where other people go and upskill. Don’t hope your life will be determined by vSphere, NSX, VCF and Aria. I won’t see you through till requirement, no matter how hard you want it.
You are complacent and exceedingly weak. Be accountable for your career. Stop posting nonsense.
Someone staying or going will not improve your chances to be kept. VMware will happily sack both of you.
The way to keep your job is not to wish ill for others or expect everyone else to oblige and plan for you.
Be capable and add value to the company. That might improve your chances
