Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Sears Bermuda?

Hi, what do y'all Know about this? Apparently there's a Sears in Bermuda?

https://sears.bm/

Is this in any way related to Eddie's Transformco, or is this totally unrelated (as Australian Kmarts are, for example)?

Does this belong on the list of active Sears?

Looks like the Sears in Bermuda is owned by MarketPlace … whatever that is. bernews.com/2012/03/photos-sears-opens-to-the-public/ Opened in 2012.

Also looks like there is one Sears in El Salvador, www.sears.com.sv One Sears in Honduras, https://es.foursquare.com/v/sears/4b44ee89f964a520150026e3 and two Sears in Guatemala, https://www.sears.com.gt/ At least the Sears in El Salvador and maybe the ones in Honduras and Guatemala are owned by Mexican firm Grupo Carso; president is tycoon Carlos Slim. https://en.centralamericadata.com/en/article/home/Sears_to_Open_Store_in_El_Salvador

In addition to the full format Sears, there are four non-Hometown Sears (small format) that are not closing in Fort Collins, Colorado, Overland Park Kanas, Lafayette, Louisiana and Pharrell, Texas. https://brostocks.com/2022/11/21/how-many-sears-stores-are-left/

Not sure what list people could want to include in your lists, might as well put them all since there are so few left anyways. Not sure what is in Mexico.

@4jkg+1korfEEP I'm sorry, but do you have a source for any of this information? Please link it, then. Happy New Year.

Sears Bermuda is a Hometown store owned by the grocery store down the street, and it became a Hometown because they had couldn't get vendors to supply appliances at reasonable prices to Bermuda. It used to be a furniture store owned by the same people, and now that Sears has folded, they'll likely go back to being fully independent which de facto happened awhile ago.

There's only a couple of places to get large appliances already in stock on the whole island which are actually outlets for wholesale importers. Since Sears hasn't been reliably supplying products for years , it's been back to getting product at a massive markup (as for retailing for almost double) from US prices. You'll see like a dozen Whirlpools in stock, which they obviously didn't get from Sears.

Since the poster is on a first-name basis with the maker of the great plan, maybe a call to his office might clear up any doubts regarding the store in Bermuda. Since the real SHO was driven into bankruptcy for lack of product, due in large measure to the 4 successive years of CIA for the rest of the chain, I'd not expect much in the Bermuda store, except perhaps as a front to hide what has not already been picked clean by creditors, the courts, vendors, payroll, and others purchasing on clearance who "unlocked" much more "value" from all of this than someone else did. As for Sears de Mexico, and anything else it might own, the explanation for its existence any any of its properties is due to someone else who has about 50x more, plus real abilities to run a business for a profit. Why do you think a play was never made to "unlock the value" from Sears de Mexico (aka Grupo Carso).

So, to whoever those "list" gentlemen are, do you think this store should be included in the Sears list? Also this doesn't seem to be closing, so if this indeed, a Sears Hometown, maybe it's not true that ALL are closing?

@pox+1korfEEP It states on their website that it is a Home Store, and only sells what a "Hometown" does (appliances, tools, etc.) so it quite possibly is one. On the other hand, having this "separate" and seemingly unlisted off-shore entity could be providing some type of pay off. How many "companies" have spun off of Sears over the past few years; and are now gone or disappearing? To this day, everything surrounding Sears/Kmart's downfall is shrouded in mystery. For sure, Eddie was no expert in retailing, nor seemed to have the least amount of interest in it; but he's in no fog when it comes down to money.

There are Sears stores in El Salvador and Guatemala, which I believe are part of Sears Mexico. But this far-off island store, I have no idea about.
