Thread regarding Ascension Health layoffs

Never question anything

One good indicator that this company has a culture of not valuing employees is that you can only have a problem here if you question something. How many times have you convinced yourself of that? Critical opinion, even if it is very well-intentioned, is unfortunately not accepted here.

You're lucky. I witnessed an Ascension executive berate and command an employee to "SHUT UP!" -- before the employee could even utter a word in self defense.

The poor employee was merely attempting to correct the executive's less-than-accurate understanding of a circumstance. That kind of ignorant, overbearing, egotistical executive behavior was commonplace in that Ascension workplace and I suspect -- based on conversations with employees at other Ascension institutions -- that it's more common than many wish to admit.

After all, apathetical employees who choose to abide by the "anything goes" doctrine tend to "look the other way" because they don't want to admit to themselves that their own work environment has deteriorated into such a hellscape and they often don't hold out much hope honest efforts to elevate basic civility can succeed at Ascension anyway.

If you question anything...

  1. "You're not a team player."
  2. "You need to get your mind right."
  3. "Tee-hee, hee-hee; there you go again."
  4. "We need to have an adult conversation during your forthcoming evaluation."
  5. "Are you OK? I'm worried about you."

Common responses when any concerned is expressed at Ascension.
