Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

A company that does not like its employees

There are other such companies, UP is not the only one. However, it is hard to believe that a company doesn't care about its employees as much as it is the case at UP. We are not an asset for them, just an expense. Perhaps I'm exaggerating, but sometimes I have the feeling that the leadership would prefer the work to be done without employees. Isn't that right?

3qcy-Then they need to start being part of the solution, not part of the problem. Don’t worry though, they’ve been getting their yearly raises and bonuses all this time, so they make plenty.

Those lower and middle managers are getting the same garbage dumped on them that you are and will be lucky to see a fraction of the 24% raise the union members are going to get. Not saying this to get pity; just to let you know the problem starts way higher.

Maybe if they got rid of the lower and middle level managers first, the workers would probably be a lot more motivated to do their jobs. Just a thought.

The company would let everyone go if possible; every company would. Employees are the largest cost and biggest liability for all companies. We are nothing but expendable assets. The moment you are no longer an asset, you will be gone. With this said, I will also respond to the poster that said managers aren’t required for day to day operations. Sadly we are sometimes our own worst enemies. Many times I have reported for duty and seem train crews report and then sit down to eat without pulling their paperwork when first coming on duty. I have had conductors on duty over an hour before beginning to go over paperwork. There are times managers come to the crew room and almost have to beg crews to go to their trains. If we all did our jobs as we should, maybe the company would get rid of some of the lower and mid level managers.

There's no exaggeration in this post. You did point out the very issue that's already been mentioned over and over again. If the work could be done without the employees, then they would absolutely do it. How would the work get done though? Every employee is an asset, until you pi-s someone off. Then you become a target for the management profession. The management cannot be trusted at all. They can't even do their own job! The employees are supposed to be able to trust the ones who make the decisions, and yet PEOPLE ARE LEAVING because of the fine college educated management staff that the company DOES NOT NEED for daily operations!!! I really don't think the UP hates the employees completely.

Very true. Their very low glass door rating reflects that.
