Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

What seven months looked like

I started counting when I got laid off. Two hundred twenty four applications. That's about eight a week. Eleven of those turned into actual calls with recruiters. Twenty eight interviews total across phone screens, hiring managers, panels. Four times I got to the final round. Four times I came close. And four times I got the no or the silence. Until this week. One offer. Maybe another coming but I'm not waiting. I'm taking this one. The numbers were brutal but I kept going. If you're still in it, keep going.

I'm so sick to see engineering job openings in India instead of the United States

@bm Yes, a few people laid off with me in last May from Medtronic all got better offers, though it takes longer to find the next best fit job. Average job searching after layoff is over 6 months. One really need to sharpen interview skills if you have not applied jobs in last 5 years.

It took my 11 months to find one, laid off in May 2025.
Save some emergency funds when you still have income. That made me calm in difficult situations and in interviews, a big difference

Wait until the MYP college kids get rif'd with the boomer generation and it will happen. There in for a super shocker looking for a new job.

Have you also noticed that the hiring agencies are primarily indian speaking recruiters and the salaries are 1/2 what they were 20 years ago? This isn't a shocker I guess but what next?

Best of luck! It’s a tough market but I’m rooting for you! Everyone I know who has exited (for whatever reason) has bounced back really well afterwards!
