The most disgusting thing is hipos who actually think they earned it. They just got lucky somehow. Many people who are just as good or better than them were never given the opportunity. It is a cr-p shoot.

Your job as the Supervisor of a HIPO id--t is to hide its mistakes.
For very big mistakes, you will receive a phone call to remind you that the big mistake is not to be mentioned in the ranking session.
These id--t HIPOs begin to think they are invincible. They typically never learn what their current group does and also get transferred out of a group before their bad decisions can get blamed on them.
Another habit is to transfer a HIPO onto a successful project team just in time to receive credit for the hard work of others.
The protected are the ones I can't stand. They can do no wrong and are promoted for doing stupid things. One genius disabled saftey alarms and almost got two employees ki-led. The manager covered everything up and protected this id--t. This special employee was promoted soon after this incident. Another star employee would just sit around all day and doodle at their desk. Another promotion for this artist. One employee lauched a projectile through a wall and nearly ki-led someone. It was the worst accident at the site. Were they fired or piped no they were not even suspended. The manger covered for this genius. The rocket launcher will retire with full benefits. I have seen so much of this at exxon and it makes me sick. What ever you do dont go against these special protected classes or you will pay. Remember exxon is a mediocrity not a meritocracy because of this. Employees should be judged on their safety, skills and talents not looks,a-s kiss ing, or relationships.
