Thread regarding T. Rowe Price Group Inc. layoffs

In-Office Days (Maryland)

This only applies to the Maryland offices because I have no clue what’s happening at other locations. I’ve been informed that they are tracking badging in Owings Mills and “collecting the data for who comes in their 2 days a week and who doesn’t”, at least for tech. I know most associates are in 4 days a week, especially at HP, but does anyone think they’ll mandate tech come in 4 days a week this year?

If confronted, just tell them you only badge in once a week because you sleep in the office during the work week. #AllAboutThatGrind

In defense of tech, most of the people on the “team” is in India nowadays and work hours that don’t align with core business hours. Most times I come in on my scheduled days and don’t talk to a single person face to face because most of my job now is just trying to direct talentless India workers over Zoom. These people can’t even write a simple SQL statement, and I have to redo most of the work they submit for testing. For tech people it feels disingenuous of the firm to ask us to come in for “collaboration” when our team is not required to be in the country, work 40 hour weeks, or even turn out quality work. I feel very bad for everyone forced to come in 4+ days per week, but directing your ire at tech seems misplaced.

IT is the most disengaged group of people at the firm. This 2x a week is nonsense when investments has to come in 4-5 days

@am Do you think that all of Global Tech is help desk? If you do, you’re either old, d-mb, or both.

@ar yep, I’m not in IT and I regularly work 60-70 hour weeks since moving to 4 days a week. At least it was more manageable when I was only in 2-3 days (or when I was completely WFH during the pandemic). Now my work-life balance is sh*t, my cup is empty for my family, and I don’t make nearly as much as y’all in IT make. Applying out like crazy to try to get out of here.

@a9 boohoo! Over40 hours a week. Oh no. That’s most people in a lot of teams. IT has it easy. No wonder they’re getting outsourced.

@am Exactly! Like no one else around here puts in all kinds of hours right. I am not in IT and am usually logging in for several hours at night once I get home from my 4 days in the office! We are swamped.

@a9 on call twice a year should allow one to come in 2 times a week? Sign me up.

Best part is the two time a weekers, stare at their phones all day. Or constantly take vacation on their two days in. Best part is, they then call contractors do the actual on premises work. The contractors are coming in, while Fte’s sit at home. Weird way to do mission critical day to day. Recent Citrix issue comes to mind along with Wi-Fi issues, phones that are not plugged in etc. The amount of crit sits should alarm you.

@a2 tech (prod support specifically) should be more flexible with wfh days. Especially groups who have on-call rotations who routinely put in over 40hrs/wk with emergency critsits that last hours. The business side isn't getting woken up at 3am because a job failed and created a cascading issue. That's equity.

@OP They should - people get tired of exceptions being made for individuals and certain departments. Stop preaching the equity and inclusion TRP if you aren’t going to live by it.
