Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Contractors renewed?

I was expecting to see more than a bunch of contractors let go this Friday, as Ford has been doing for years now, since is the last working day of December for many white collars workers in NA. However, it seems none of the contractors I know has been let go (which I am glad for them).

So it seems all those contracts were renewed into next year. Which brings the question as to why. Is it because of the (not so) massive retirement on November 30th and contractors will still be axed later in 2023? Is it because managers are going to be focusing the next layoffs on employees, while keeping contractors? Any rumors about this?

No need to make the December agency cuts this year. The cuts were pulled forward to August.

Toyota is in second place with Subaru. Fact: Koreans are on par with us. Most subaru's are built in japan.

It might be the low rates paid?
Congrats to those taking new positions on new year

  • Ford pay for senior IT $50/hr. Got new position @ $68/hr
  • Ford pay for expert IT $65/hr. Got new position @ $80/hr
  • Ford pay for mid-career IT $38/hr. Got new position @$55/hr

Contractors should shop around. Sure you might actually have to do work @ other companies, but you will keep sharp and marketable

Ok, thanks to the poster who indicated that the contract house found out SIRPs are marked. Seems a little strange since many have such deep knowledge of both automotive and Ford.

SIRP are under the Monarch plan and are not eligible for any type of employment. So I will never work at Ford again. Oh well.

If you got hired back as a contractor I sure would like to know how? The contract house I talked to spoke with HR and we SIRPs are marked!

Lol classic CEO trick. Layoff everyone off and tell Wall Street "We saved $10 billion in cost by reducing headcount!" Then hire back all the laid off folks as contractors next year. I hope you all negotiate a rate that is substantially more than what you made as salaried employees and make them pay for it.

I took the early retirement at the end of November and am returning to Ford in early January as an agency employee in Ford Blue but only on a 6 month contract. I was able to negotiate about a 10% raise compared to my Ford salary when I left. The highest going contract yearly salary I could find was a max of 95-105K with my experience of over 30 years at Ford. After talking with numerous contract houses this last month, they were told to expect many agency and/or contract positions coming from both Ford and Stellantis in 1st qtr 2023. Breath deep the gathering gloom....

I got one last week. The problem is.... how can I be sure I have a job for 36 months ?
Ford has very bad reputation for cutting people.
