We have all said it, there is at least one director out there that we want to know why they are even here. I personally want to apply out of my spot but don’t want to be in a toxic environment especially when the fruit goes bad from the “top” down. Any suggestions on which directors to avoid and why?

As a director, I can confirm it’s one of the most difficult roles and positions to be in at Schwab. Not only do you get unclear messaging from the top, you also are responsible for the tactical actions of the team. Are all good? No, that’s true at any level. But it’s a real struggle to have to manage up and manage down. Not only are directors cleaning up strategy and negotiating with MDs, they are having to tactically manage departments and teams. Want to go after levels that should be SETTING strategy and alignment, look to the massive layers of MDs.
Set the plan. Support Directors and Managers and ICs to implement. 100% of my experience is that MDs do not set the plan in a manner that’s effective.
Probably every single one that works 100% telecommute but pushes everyone into the office and tracks attendance like, get lost.

Our director within T2 here in Westlake is one you want to avoid, she’s the biggest two faced incompetent person i’ve ever met. No one trusts her and if we “do” it’s to stay on her good side so they don’t get backlash. Most of us stay for our managers or because we don’t have anywhere else good to go. If you are in westlake stay clear of T2

Avoid almost all of them! There is one who sits in her office doing puzzles all day. Of course she puts it away when her boss who of course is in another state visits but she’s touted as a real “rock star” lmao
In my experience it’s less about one bad director and more about a system that rewards the same type of leadership. In my department that’s resulted in a very weak leadership team at the top. People who know how to manage up and play politics but lack real expertise. They take credit for the knowledge of the teams beneath them while delivering the lowest merit increases many of us have seen during a “record year.”
That same weak leadership team somehow makes sure their own ABOs hit target (unlike the rest of us), collects stock awards (again unlike the rest of us), and enjoys flexibility that doesn’t seem to apply the same way downward.
It’s a pretty clear example of how this place rewards mediocrity while convincing itself it’s excellence

For Schwab you need a list of what directors NOT to avoid but that woupd give them ideas of people to manage out.

Guessing you are one of those directors whom doesn’t want to be called out. Makes sense minimizing people’s concerns when it just someone wanting help to find a stable place to work
