Thread regarding Pembina Pipeline Corp layoffs

Layoff today - Dec. 21 2022

Someone was let go today 3 full days before Christmas as is tradition around our BU. Need to flex that middle manager muscle to keep the adult children who report to you in line. HR always complicit. Totally unnecessary move but on par for the company.

Merry Christmas everyone.

If you get laid off. Do they still give you your bonus?

Ah Pembina... consulted there a few years back and had the luxury of watching how the sh*t show works.

  1. Someone is making an impact or (gawd forbid) building a personal brand with recognition from senior leaders.
  2. Managers who couldn't find a field location on a map let alone drive to one start getting worried.
  3. Give said person a poopy review in November.
  4. Fire them in December.
  5. Remind that staff that this was nothing personal and better for the business - you know, they just didn't align with our vision or even better remind them to check their background conversations...

Fear ripples through the department, BU etc...

A company that has location, position and infrastructure to be an industry leader struggles to complete and execute on projects (polymer plant anyone?)... look no further than managers and senior managers for why this is happening.

paternity leave layoffs seems to be the norm at Pembina. Their paternity leave top off policy is an HR trap.

I knew her and from what I know, there were no known performance or attitude issues. Total gut punch. Heard they also let go of another guy whose only blight was taking paternity leave to be with his new kid.

Do what is right and steer people and students clear of this place. Merry Christmas/Holidays
