Does anyone have any details on this? There's a formal meeting about it tomorrow evidently.

@kd i wonder if the new head of crsl will be required rto instead of being remote?
I know MD. He's a strong leader - good vision and good with people.
I'm not just being a corporate guy. he's really solid. Should be good for the lab.
@jx Mike Dolezal. He was the lead of the software portion of CRSL during the two years it had the lowest Voice of Employee scores in all or Corporate Research. So yeah. Why not put him in charge of all of it.
@h9 He is going to ‘Claw’ into the special projects by just sitting in his chair and shouting at his direct reports and brown nosing the upper management crowd. That’s what he has done all his time. Where is HR?
@f4 all you have to do is tell the CRL SVP that he is the smartest person at 3M and he will create a "special projects" director position in his organization for you, with the help of his best friend the CTO of course.
More useless ‘strategic shifts’…. CTO is useless as is all of his buddies under him…. The titanic is sinking and leaders want to do musical chairs as a distraction.
@f4 you need to be one of BBs cronies from his past gigs or a kiss up to one of his cronies.
3Ms always had the reputation for nepotism even back to the 80s and 90s but it's extremely prevalent these days.
For those hoping for the next stock price bump for your GESPP, be smart and sell now. BB is out of tricks.
How does one get a Special Projects Managerial job. No direct reports, internet searches on next big thing for 3M, and no accountability, plus 350 grand per year sounds pretty enticing to me.
How do I sign up ?
@ey what was the "next big thing" in 3M? Maybe private area wart creme?
@ew leave it to BB and his mercenary gang and a few 3M accomplices in upper management who kiss his behind.
What happened to the never lay people off later in the week, and certainly never on Friday so people are floored going into the weekend. Argh!
Well BB how many shares will you buy back now at the inflated price?
Enjoy that yacht party in Florida while loyal 3Mers just got thrown into the abyss.
Some reorg around CRSL and CRAL. Shuffling more cards to call it a strategic shift.
What is interesting to see is one manager assigned to a Special Projects job at a Senior Director level.
It is a cushy job, means no direct reports, spend all day doing internet search and making reports and presentations about what is the next big thing for 3M.
The last guy who had this role was the infamous ex manager of CRML Austin, who kept his job while everyone in the rest of the group were let go in 2015. This guy was special, universally admired in 3M for his stellar management capabilities, whose wife is still a big shot in 3M legal.
Bro kept his job for 5 plus years, doing his Special Projects job and no doubt contributing to 3M and CRL's stupendous organic growth during that time.
This new person certainly has big shoes to fill. Good luck Bro !
@ew what is CRL?
12 people let go in CRL. Just when folks thought that 3M is doing reasonably well based on Q4 earnings, they are handed a surprise gift from 3M management.
All affected are technical folks, management is untouched as is the norm with layoffs in 3M.
2026 is off to a great start.
Come one you all. At least read these things and give them a chance to digest.
Alls I’m seeing is a rearranging of deck chairs. I won’t say “on the Titanic” because that implies it will fail. It clearly wasn’t optimum to begin with so re-arranging may actually be the right thing to do. People on this board complain non-stop about current situation but when something happens that might actually be an improvement folks don’t like that either. Pick a side !
No layoffs... yet. Claims of adding staff. There's a director reporting to a director which suggests lead director will be VP.
Say goodbye to everyone from Costa Rica.
@db why have skilled, hardworking people who make the community better when we can have a chatbot that is wrong 80% of the time /s
I'm just waiting for services like the library staff to be cut. I love them all so much.
Yes, cut the people at the bench, while promoting some yes men, inevitably a man, to a VP level !
This is just what we need. Just when MN is making news worldwide for all the wrong reasons, this move will surely motivate more CRLers to give more than 100% for 2026.
Perfect timing and kudos to management. Couldn't have been any better.
@af oh no. Which manager? Just about every one of them is inept.
Email invite lists indicate only a portion of CRSL (modeling & part of the mechanics testing group) are moving to CRAL. And seems as if a CRSL manager is being promoted to VP of the remainder.
CRSL+CRAL=CRDL
@a3 rearrange the chairs on the deck of the titanic and call for another round of redundancies. BB clearly think CRL is a cost and not a tremendous asset.
I wonder if this is another step toward breaking up the company faster than expected. BB doesn't like centralized costs. CRL has been put on the menu.
Meanwhile, its about time for BB to board is corporate jet home for his Florida yacht club this afternoon. What a life! 20 million for all this mayhem!
How many are affected
Likely consolidate and reduce headcount again. One trick pony.
