Thread regarding Hitachi Vantara layoffs

Finally…! Hitachi to sell Hitachi Vantara and it’s storage business!

https://news.bloomberglaw.com/private-equity/hitachi-is-said-to-seek-buyer-for-1-3-billion-data-storage-unit

After a decade of mismanagement, Hitachi Vantara will seize to exist. From Brian Householder, Gajen Kandiah, to Sheila Rohra and her buddy Octavian, a string of incompetent leaders have eroded the company to a tired, irrelevant, skeleton with employees waiting for their turn at the chopping block.

Question is who will be interested in a dying business with small margins… Private equity? Broadcom? The other verdors will certainly want to spend their acquisition budget elsewhere. And without the Hitachi name, who will be interested in just Vantara? And for what? Their fabulous storage products, enterprise address book?

The recent round of layoffs and integration of ITPro make sense all of a sudden! It’s very sad for the employees though…

The Titanic is finally going under and will fall to pieces below the surface. Bye, bye, Vantara!

@pc Your lack of leadership is why HV su-ks soy ba--s. Hitachi is focused on being green so I guess it makes sense to flush the cr-p. With such pathetic earnings and best case flat revenue coupled with PE 22% IRR requirements any sale would be south of $150M, ignoring the buyer pricing in the cost of mass layoffs. Just think of all those companies like UBS and TD Bank in Canada that outsourced their data centers to HV. They are sh-----g sushi now.

@15x Only NetApp and Komprise probably have a higher percentage of Indians. BTW I have real work experience with the India development operations and it was so bad, had to be spoon fed because the technical depth wasn't there. I had to save some of the emails as their knowledge just cr-p.

I have referred to Hitachi as Christmas Island (where all the broken Christmas toys go) for the past decade of working with them. Their SAN products are good, the content side of the business is as someone previous said a dumpster fire. The turn over of VP sales in the US seems like every year. Ever since the Pentaho acquisition which was a $B cluster f. But the final straw in my mind was investing in weakio. That was them giving up. Executives are powerpoint clowns.

@147 wow someone is a whiny little bi--h on here! rearranging deck chairs on the Titantic, India rot, arrogant Waltham staff. Get over yourself and leave if you hate it so much. Could go on and flourish with a new tech company at the helm, or it can die and burn out.

We get a note today internally that DEI is now DOI. Opportunity? Really? Not if you are a qualified white person. HV is the poster child for ‘go woke, go broke’. They have total disregard for qualifications and competence and hire and promote with discriminatory DEI practices resulting in complete id--ts in jobs they are not qualified for. This all started years ago when they started this ‘program’. Best thing that could happen is for them to get bought and someone with sense fire the id--ts who drove the company into the ground.

As a customer: Can you guys just fix the sh---y software and maybe do something that doesn't take an entire ESX host to run the management apps for a couple of enterprise arrays?

Maybe take a look at Pure and get a clue from what they've been doing for years. Yea Pure's support su-ks but at least you don't have to be a rocket scientist to manipulate their devices. Hitachi acts like every place has the vmware guys running storage. Not everyone is Small/Medium business guys.

Hardware is pretty solid though.

How about you clowns get back to work. If y’all applied half as much energy to work as you did to mindless gossip, the business could continue to flourish.

@xf well you're most likely one of those "arrogant clowns" as well and will be going down the drain with the rest. You think the new owner will want the remaining content junk?!?!

But how will Octavian have an excuse to fly over to Japan and take selfies at expensive sushi dinners for his LinkedIn profile if we're bought out? Doesn't anyone in upper management care that his taste for success is now soy-based? You monsters!

It All Makes Sense Now... a long-running project with a major PE firm.. moving legal, procurement, etc. to HD.. renaming ITPro & HICAM... "tighter integration" and hastily integrating admin orgs, the results look like something Dr. Frankenstein made. Very ham-fisted. This has been in the works for 2 years. The response issued yesterday was the worst non-denial 'denial' I've ever seen, probably crafted by an intern. Just awful.

To the person asking about Singapore: all of it. The entire business has been packaged up to sell.

Jason Hardy is another reason the company's revenue declined. This so-called AI CTO overpromised customers, stole credit for others' ideas, and pushed BasePOD certification. This multi-million-dollar mistake generated zero revenue because HV couldn't sell it directly. Instead, he hijacked other people's deals and sandbagged them to claim the numbers. Jason, Octavian, and Sheila accelerated the company's collapse.

Now, Hardy's going to Nvidia to run their storage business, claiming he's a storage expert. He only knows Weka filesystem and object he's clueless about block storage. He's telling people internally he'll report directly to Jensen Huang. Good luck to Nvidia and Jensen. This guy is pure bullsh-t, and if they're not careful, he'll damage them too.

They gave us a bs response.
Colleagues,

Many of you may have seen a recent Bloomberg media article circulating about our company. I want to address it directly, so you have clarity from us — not from outside conjecture. As a policy, we do not comment on rumors, nor do we speculate on media reports, which are common in our industry.

Over the years, Hitachi Vantara has been the subject of such stories, and media speculation often increases around the earnings season. What I can assure you is the following:

Our leadership remains fully focused on our strategy, our customers, and our employees.
Hitachi has not confirmed nor communicated any such decisions.
There has been no change to our plans, priorities, or commitments.

I understand that stories like this can be distracting. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to

Cool guitar in the background of your Zoom calls, Brad. Thanks for calling us bigots when we noticed the outsourcing during your temporary stay for a LinkedIn bulletpoint, Gajen. The flight analogies were so motivating while crashing us into the mountaside, Octavian. Wow, Sheila is a woman being a woman somewhere!

Place is a fu--ing joke.

Well we hard last night that this is more of the 15 year saga and nothing is happening. Rumours of a global tech taking over to bolster storage. Smart way to increase value if nothing else.

Sad to see it. Bloomberg's not publishing without legit sources. For several reasons, the leak is a massive problem for Hitachi, Ltd. in the immediate future.

All the decisions after Jack Domme were just foolish. We all saw it. I don't necessarily blame Sheila, I bet she had no idea what a cluster she was inheriting.

In the current market, the only thing to make this an interesting investment for anyone but a competitor is a deeeeep discount. We'll see.

The rest of the world been supporting the US sales for years but leadership are in denial. Am sure Shiela and co will get nice payoffs and move on to the next “exciting” project. HR not supporting backfills, no annual compensation reviews and clueless exec leadership have all led to this outcome.
