Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Examples of poor leadership:

Let's name some examples of poor leadership we have here.
There are so many things that have been frustrating me for a long time, I don't know which one I would single out as the biggest example of bad leadership.

Being quite open about the fact that vmware is an aggressive user of H1 visas on national TV but not explaining why hiring cheaper foreign workers is the right move for vmware.

I guess theft counts as bad leadership.

If you a happy to agree to a 1 billion dollar fine you know some serious crimes were committed and they are getting away with it.

Lock them up!

I lie.
I backstab.
I fool people.
I buy people.
I destroy reputations.
I undermine.
I am controlling.
I am creepy.
I am insecure.
I am disordered.
I take credit for work not mine.
I tell sensational church stories and tote my Bible across the street.
I am rewarded for my deceit.
I am a fraud (100 rats in a suit).
I am the VP of incompetence and cringe.

I am, yes, good” leadership

To avoid decision making, giving everyone a choice of at least two different paid-for internal tools for practically everything.

And, then complaining that we're bleeding cash.

Having an internally marketed "Look at me, I'm managing" field day to fix internal productivity issues, but ensuring that all projects selected issues must be able to be completed within two weeks, or it won't get fixed.

  1. Hiring Joshua Burgin without thinking anyone would Google his name to see his past behavior at Amazon being an issue. Old boys network going on there.
  1. Addressing the blowback by stating “”Burgin “will not be placed in a leadership role in the DAP domain as originally planned,” Chief Executive Officer Rangarajan Raghuram””
  1. Giving Burgin a leadership role this past month.

Good times!

  1. The finance VP having her SISTER as a direct report and promoting her sister every year. In what world is that okay.
  1. Having people who are not qualified to lead a global organization lead a global organization during EMEA hours only. Leaving AMER with no support.
  1. The people in charge of creating processes and policies having absolutely no idea of the daily operations leading to mo--nic policies the whole company has to follow.

You can’t take a call from your desk in Palo Alto without the person on the other end hearing all of your neighbors conversations as well

This is quite usual, quite surprised VMware didn’t move to this model ages ago. Basically if you don’t like it, too bad. It won’t change under Broadcom. The only think that will change is you will be required to be chained to it.

You are totally right about the office remodel. You can’t take a call from your desk in Palo Alto without the person on the other end hearing all of your neighbors conversations as well. And when everyone is in the office like they want, it makes it difficult to find a phone or conference room. Completely stupid!

I think Hocks solution to this will not to be to do another expense remodel, but to reduce the amount of employees

Raghu telling us to focus on the main thing, and that we only sell one product, but then never creating or driving an incentives for collaboration across the BU's. VMware truly could have been a great company if we could have mastered that.

Inability to recognize that productivity has is a force multiplier for the development cost of a product. Less productivity means less work. Less work means less moral. Less moral means even less work.

Remodeling the buildings to an open floor plan that no one wanted.
Remodeling the remodeled buildings to be even worse than the first remodel.
Complaining that people are not working in the office, and it's expensive to have all the offices.

Hiring a person into a principal engineer position, without an interview,
who cannot program.

Maybe letting them stay in a leadership position all these years is an even better example of bad leadership.
