This would have required validation at the bench as well as vehicle level. Engineers would have signed off on this functionality. Of course, it's possible there was no test for ensuring the DRLs went off as the the headlights turned on. If not, there sure is now.
I did know some people who did testing for just that sort of thing that got laid-off.
GM laid off almost all of the talents in 2019, and leftovers and new hires are either id--ts or ‘YES’ men. It is expected to recall more with the fast EV push, and eventually the Company will disappear in 20 years if the ‘stupid’ government no longer inject the taxpayer’s money into it. Please let GM down, and assist other good auto Company!
