Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

I was let go in 2019 after 9 1/2 yrs as a contractor

I used to work for the CX team and I was let go after 9 1/2 years with very short notice, little more than a week. I escaped so many layoffs in those 9 1/2 years. I hope people realize that no one is safe. This is the new reality and this is the way it has been for almost 2 decades. Stop complaining and find a new job. It was good that I got let go because I found a better job in a month , making more money and the company was great too. Cisco is a boring company. People should find somethign better.

Contractors are not employed by Cisco.
Benefits are part of their compensation.
Tech companies pay more for contract work.
Tech companies have more flexibility with contract work.
Contract work is not cheap labor.
Vendors have contracts with other tech companies.
Contractors can transfer to other jobs through their employer.
Some people prefer contract work.

Contractors can't be let go. Get a grip on life. Cisco just ended your contract with the contracting company. You are lucky you got a weeks notification, usually it is the same day notification and your login credentials are locked right away. If you don't hand in the Cisco issued laptop and other equipment, Cisco bills it to your contracting company.

You weren’t let go or LRd. The contract that Cisco had with your staffing agency wasn’t renewed. As a contractor you were never, ever employed by Cisco. In fact compliance rules state the contract between your real employer and Cisco should’ve been only 18 months. I wonder how many contractors are on this site under the impression the Cisco is their Employer? They are not.

Sorry no compassion for a contractor. That’s part of the arrangement at at any company - especially during LRs.

Cool story from 2019, which in no way provides empathy or consolation to the people who received terrible news yesterday.
