Severance Details?

Apparently I am on the chopping block - havent received the new yet, but I think its time we spoke about severance. Can anyone throw insight into that?

2 months pay to 4/1 then 12 weeks of severance. 20+ years of service. Bummer about those invested RSU’s as well.

You're angle comes across overly apologetic for big business. Could you or anyone be doing "more" in their current position? Always. The question is "what are you paid to do". People act like just because a company gives you money in exchange for your time and expertise that you should go "above and beyond". Fu-k no. Do exactly what they pay you for and no more. Work hard but don't stretch yourself. Plenty of research shows that overworking and having too many tasks to juggle actually makes you less productive. Looking back to say reassess what you could've done differently is useful, but thinking there's something you could've done to save your a-s from a layoff? That's not something that exists in reality.

Good luck to the rest of you who are looking for a job. Take a moment to breathe and reevaluate where you're at personally and professionally. Don't listen to these haters that say "it's your fault". There's plenty of reasons outside of your personal control that result in a layoff.

Please post what part of the world you are in so people have an idea of where notices and 1:11’s are currently being sent

No jerk. There is an unbelievable amount of truth in the you did nothing wrong. Could you have been better and promoted your work more, sure. But as someone who has been part of this process multiple times how good you are is literally one of the last things discussed. Your criticalness to the business is 10x more important. I've literally had conversations, at NetApp, where I've asked why are we cutting Bob? And if was so you know who Bobs brother is. Or without John we lose support of team X, John and rich are besties. I've seen top contributors get cut at NetApp because the team had 10 people, we needed to cut 3. 4 were needed from a task/geo standpoint. 3 were needed from a connections standpoint, so we know the three were cutting and 1 is the number one contributor, that sucks.

Typical NetApp severance is 4 weeks for the first 2 years, 1 week for each additional.

No, there is no truth to " you did not do anything wrong" statement, I am being let go and when I look back I could find various reasons for why they chose me to lay off, I could have done a better job at planning, execution and communicating in my job. I failed at these things and it was unfortunate that I wasn't given enough time to recover from my mistakes.

I was also completely beaten down by extreme micromanagement, which I wasn't used to. In a way I think I will find the best version of myself going forward.

And I hope people don't fool themselves that there's nothing they did which resulted in the layoff, there is always something, please find what it is and work on it.

Severance is usually 3 weeks plus 1 for every year of service and includes benefits but may have changes. You can ask for more but it is usually printed out ahead of time.

Sorry for people impacted. You are already set to lose your access if you avoid so better to get a clean break and leave with banners flying. They just call you directly and leave a message. People have been let go on road trips and conferences. They will do your expenses with an external app if that is relevant,

Update your resume, get your personal data off. Change all investment and benefits to a personal email and update phone. It is a PITA to get your work email and phone number changed without access. . Get your personal contacts and NetApp contacts off, and connect with everyone in your first hours to start looking. Phone contacts are tough to save so do that as well. Don’t take anything, it is just a headache to use.

Impacts will be broad, help your peers get ready if you hear they are hit. The leadership there is strictly out for themselves so don’t waste time on their platitudes. You did nothing wrong, the leaders have screwed up a great company. They can’t use talent and waste it, find somewhere that values you.

I've been checking my email a bit more tonight, for those who've received one, what's the downside of not showing up to the 1:1 ?, sort of 'oh i got a headache and have to reschedule'. That way yeah you let em know that you know at least. I guess if you know you want to go out smooth. Must be tempting to just stay home.
