Thread regarding 3M layoffs

TTS needs to cut some SVPs!

3M IT ran for 100 years with only one SVP, now there are many. Given 3M needs to cut costs, why not eliminate the excessive SVPs? It’s actually crazy that Mark and Monish can justify this.

Remember, during the September layoffs that also hit TTS, Mark Murphy created two new SVP positions at the same time. TTS could have easily kept those positions at the VP level and there were plenty of capable in-house candidates that could have filled the role. Instead, Murphy decided to engage in empire building during layoffs. Who does that? The IT Security SVP has a sc--w loose and people are leaving at a crazy pace under her. Is there accountability for her inability to keep valuable talent... nope - just like the lack of accountability at Mike Roman's level with Monesh driving 3M off the cliff.

Why hasn’t the new awesomely savior “Mark Murphy” fixed this problem? If he had any sense at all he would have shutdown the SAP efforts by now and saved the company millions.

Frankly we are one of the sites that went live last year. Now we are overwhelmed with tons of data, but nobody seem to be using it. What a waste of resource to implement SAP

Seriously… why hasn’t the SAP work been stopped? Would easily save $100 million a year!

Don't forget: all the beneficiaries of this are too young for retirement and therefore got a supply post to survive until retirement.

And there are many who joined BT who found they got screwed when implementation failed.

Yes there are many BT roles which climbed to JG15/16

I heard rumors that a lot of people who took jobs in BT received multiple JG bumps. Not a bad deal for a project that never ends. There are children who were born at the beginning of BT who will soon be old enough to work at 3M.

There are people on the SAP deployment team who enjoyed this long process. Many of them get to enjoy free travels, and attaining platinum mileage frequent flyer during the initial SAP period. Truly the good times.

A product manager once upon a time volunteered their plant to implement sap in one of the early waves with an enthusiastic "We got this.." Two failed attempts since then. I guess there were to many failure modes to action. Winning?

The SAP program/s have been and are a joke. Honestly Polaris was the start of the downfall of 3M. Not sure how additional investment in this train wreck is still justified.

How is SAP not done yet? Didn't that start in like 2007?

There looks for be a bloated regional team to support next wave of SAP deployment.

Anybody above JG 14 should have a quarterly review to explain what they do to deserve their salary. No, making powerpoints and hiring Kearny consultants to do your job doesn't cut it.

Cut one SVP, save a dozen plant workers that actually help meet customer demand!
