Thread regarding 3M layoffs

What performance ranking system is 3M using these days

Been away for a little while. What performance ranking system is the company using these days. Is it the dreaded GE 5 (best) to 1 (worst) with forced percentages for each segment. Or is it something kinder and gentler?

As a retired leader, did I ever despise the GE SYSTEM. never in my life did I have to tell people who were doing an excellent job that they were a 3 (average). Or people doing a steady job that they were a 2 (below average) because we were forced to offer up people to meet the preordained 15 percent number from HR.

that's one great thing about retirement. No more HR BS

How did MR justify his Total of $100 mil compensation package collected over 5 year CEO tenure? How did the BOD ever approve such performance?

Mike for one should have been put on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) at least two years ago.

For the lower levels, being put onto a PIP was the kiss of death. Somehow, Mike has avoided any accountability.

As for the 1 quotas, yep those are enforced right down to the fraction of a percent..some leaders input a person as a 2 and then are told they MUST offer up a poor sap to meet the numbers.

Does COC members follow these performance ratings as well?

Is it considered "meeting expectations" for the past few years of 3M performance?

Quotas for 1’s remain live and well. Some groups rotate like a hat of shame while others have legitimate use for them.

3M had the 1-5 scale prior to Moni Petawawa entering from GE.

The new scale effective 2021 or so, is 1-3 with reduction of AIP at 80% for receiving a 1 (did not meet expectations) and a bump of 20% for a 3 (exceeding expectations)
