Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Roman, Monish, Lavers, all need to go

  • Anybody heard of "Advanced 3M" anymore? Leadership trying to cover up their extremely poor decision making with massive investments in SAP / business transformation with little to no benefit to the bottom line. There is a reason why leadership puts muzzles on any talk of "Advanced 3M" that they touted every quarterly earnings statement for several years.
  • Anybody seen the 3M communications propaganda machine in place on social media (LinkedIn, etc.)? Pre-made scripts for management to post and like? All trying to hide the real sh-t-show going on internally... Clearly trying to change the narrative from PFAS chemicals in ground water and screwing Veterans w/ defective earplugs (how about trying to claim bankruptcy on the defunct AO Safety business in order to limit 3M's liability for those veterans? Wow)
  • Company has rid itself of anyone willing to take risks and make good business decisions. All that's left is a bunch of do-nothing "YES" people

Supposed Leadership

  • Roman is terrible... no decision making and all deflections and smoke screens to cover up bad decision / lack of direction
  • Monish? didn't he ruin GE? But 3M hired him? Price increases is his answer to everything... "Customer Focus".... laughable
  • Lavers... Piece of sh-t, just a bad human being...period

Company is ripe for a takeover... Dump Management while there is still time. Still good technology, good lab resources, and manufacturing (now to be gutted)

Who or what kind of leader should 3M be hoping for? What experience and characteristics will right the ship?

In addition to massive stock buybacks funded (in part) by barrowing, Inga also increased the dividend payout ratio from~30% to ~70%.

Inga boasts HIS achievement of doubling 3M's market cap as CEO. However, 3M's sales and revenue remained flat during his tenure.

Financial engineering of GAAP principles is accepted and, works-----until it doesn't.

I saw online that Inge makes around $70k per speaking event. Are people really paying him to learn about stock buybacks and how to choose an incompetent successor?

Inge was a crook who wasted absurd amounts of money on stock buybacks. The company’s downfall was already well underway during his time, it just wasn’t as obvious.

I once watched a man ask him “why are you borrowing money to buyback stock?” And Inge’s response was “I would never borrow money to buyback stock” Uhhhh idk what you call spending billions and billions on stock buybacks while simultaneously pumping up the debt, but I’d call it borrowing money to buyback stock.

I looked through 3M annual reports last and going back to ~2013 3M spent nearly $30B buying back stock at a higher price than it trades at today. And during Inge’s time they were buying back stock at a P/E of 20+. Just criminal.

Did anyone notice that when HC spin was announced it was referred to as Spinco and New3M. Then it quickly changed to Spinco and ParentCo. Hmmm. More advice from Consultants? Yep, I noticed.

Funny you mentioned Scottie from Star Trek. Unfortunately, unlike the wildly talented and successful Scottie from USS Enterprise operations, 3M also has a Scottie (Scottish peter gibbons) running its enterprise operations (into the ground).

Problem is this Scottie couldn't tell you the difference between matter and antimatter or customer and supplier for that matter. 3Ms Scottie has taken a damaged warp drive at 3M and turned it into junk. The good Scottie could serve you up some prized scotch. The bumbling 3M Scottie can only direct you to an overpriced Starbucks in woodbury.

To 3Ms Scottie, anyone below LG15 in an manufacturing plant is just another redshirt waiting for his or her final assignment before being zapped by a layoff phaser.

Never could figure out the buzzword "Enterprise." As a pedestrian I just thought it was a way for the "leadership" to sound smart. The only "Enterprise Operation" person that I know of that was worth their salt was Scotty from the USS Enterprise, NCC 1701. At least he would say "I'm giving it all she's got, Cap'n!"

Billions in lost retirement income for past and present 3m’ers, the once proud and productive 3m culture decimated and replaced with a Woke / anti-customer environment of do-nothing A-s Kissers (yea you Jeff Lavers)…. How does this guy (Roman) still have a job?

And how do the current employees stand by and not revolt (wait,,, worst employee survey EVERRRR the last year)… and past employees not screaming for Roman’s head?

So sad what has happened and now you have to wonder…. Too big to fail? Maybe sooner rather than later.

Expect EO to be renamed or dropped. It has become known as E(M)O as in enterprise mis-operation.

Tireman will probably steal a name from tire hub or Starbucks days.

Monish didn't ki-l GE but he helped accelerate its crash and burn. Neutron jack, who gets ridiculous amount of credit for being a good manager, actually pierced the aorta during his tenure when he moved GE away from being a great manufacturing company to being a holding company. The patient has bled to near death ever since under Immelt and successors.

What monish is doing is finishing the death march begun under GE reject mcnerney. Look at the trajectory of the two companies. 3M got a later start but is on the same path to be broken into pieces. Mike is a puppet, but a 15 million dollar doll.

People used to pay the 10 to 40 percent price premium for the name GE OR 3M. Not anymore. And whoever the pompous ja----s that decided to ground the entire sales force deserves to spend the rest of their career working in the remote Canadian oil sands.

The leadership team has been advised to drop "Advance 3M" term in their conversation

Same goes for "Lean Six Sigma", "3M Execution"... etc... these has been discontinued
