Thread regarding VMware layoffs

I'm not sure if I want to wait any longer

Do you still think that it is a wise decision to wait for the finalization of the acquisition and the severance pay, given that there is more and more competition on the job market and no indication of when the situation will improve?

Leave. We don't want to hear from unhappy people on this board. Thank you!

I quit back when the acquisition was first announced and am thrilled with my decision. I took my time interviewing, found a company I liked, and have been stress-free for months. In the US the severance will be so low that it is not worth waiting around for. If you wait till you are let go, you are most likely to panic, take whatever job is available, and be too scared to negotiate salary. Why not start now while you are still in a position of strength (sort of)?

You are responsible for your own career. VMware owes you nothing and would drop you in a second. Do what is right for you.

I think you should hang tight. Don't let the pressure crack you. I know it's easier said than done, but you can get through it. What's the worst that could happen? 1. They lay you off and you get money or 2. You quit voluntarily with no money before finding a job. Up too you, but I don't think #1 sounds that bad.
