Thread regarding VMware layoffs

RIF updates per BU? Delivery method?

Seeing in some of the threads that RIF'ing has begun. So sorry for those talented individuals already.. Any information on how the news was delivered, what the severance looks like, and what BUs this has happened in already?

All the WARN act requires is 60 day notice before a layoff. Employers can actually keep you on for those 60 days if they wanted. instead that is why VMW (and lots of tech companies) will just give you at least 60 days pay in severance, nullifying any WARN issues.

So the 4 months + 1 week a year, covers the WARN act. (actually that is why our minimum severance policy is 2 months + 1week per year of service).

@1sce+1kPh3kZ9 - I don’t know about WARN? Just says 4 months plus 1 week. That’s the total. I guess that’s why they’re saying it’s performance related so WARN isn’t applicable? Idk

@1yex+1kPh3kZ9 I am so sorry to hear that. I hope you will find something else better and sooner. So, the 4 months severance including the 2 months WARN in payroll (total of 6 months plus 1w/yr) or it is excluding the 2 months WARN (all in as 4 months plus 1wk/yr)?

Did the HR docs mention if they will advance RSU vesting and annual bonus?

I was laid off yesterday morning via zoom call with my manager. Tanzu sales/MAPBU. Said it was “performance related” even though I was at 104% of quota last half and on track to hit goal this half. We’ve never had a conversation about my performance before I was terminated yesterday morning. Sev is 4 months plus 1 week for every year of service. Paperwork was delv via HR last night and we have until Jan 30th to accept or decline.

Not a rif. It was a targeted layoff. Supposedly it is done.

To be clear, you get paid your severance after the 2 months warn period. Until then you still are officially with the company. If you find another role WITHIN VMWARE before then, then you will not collect severance, because you will now be collecting a paycheck again from VMware

The HR docs on source says that severance needs to be paid back if you find alternate employment in 60 days

Do you have to pay the severance back if found a job within 2 months (WARN) period ? Because, technically, that someone still in payroll in that 2 months. Or the severance is a clear cut. Once layoff, the person and VMW relationship is severed.

I was RIF'd this morning at 9:30 ET. I am in the SEIS group - Hyperscalers. Joined the company in May 2022 just a few weeks before BC announcement.

Usually they have given annual bonus as part of severance during the january layoffs. But not this time. That's bad for the impacted folks.

Sporadic layoffs here and there, looks like no mass layoff yet

Same, coworker was told 4 months plus 1 week. Nothing in bonus/rsu vesting, she's waiting on the official paperwork.

A coworker in sales was told this morning by phone from their manager. The package is 4 months plus 1 week for each year of service.

I think its just the SBU so far which makes sense considering they were at risk with Broadcom owning Symantec. I thought they would spin them back off vs laying anyone off.
