Thread regarding Avaya layoffs

Job hunting

Avaya is a dying company and the best thing to do is run from here. However, I'm quite desperate because I can't get a new job.
I believe that I have the skills the job market is looking for, but I have been unsuccessfully trying to get something better for a very long time now.
How picky were you in looking for new opportunities?

In my experience 99.9% of all applications end in failure - so apply for a thousand jobs and you will be 100% successful!

(It also helps if someone on inside recommends / introduces you - then you will probably get away with 20 or so applications)

Don’t lose heart or give in - interviewing and applying for jobs is not what you trained for, so it takes persistence, don’t be shy, hit up all your old customer contacts, former colleagues, old managers etc.

Try to position yourself as a CEO, ask for a $4m sign-on bonus and a $1m a month bonus if you reach agreed targets (Make sure you set the targets).

If it all goes wrong you can walk away and go back to playing golf knowing at least you tried.

Try working for a customer. If you have skills.
