My GESPP average price is about $170. Still suffering a $40 loss (as of 9-Jan) after holding so many years. Anyone believes it can go up further so that I can liquidate all?

I am working in a plant. Both POL Dir and LVS Dir are cost down experts.
Both are asking for the same cost down numbers.
I wonder why we need 2 directors reporting the same thing?
There are better investments
Yup lots of cost cutting managers at 3M these days, very few growth leaders left 😭
Be sure to tune in on Tuesday, Jan 24, at 8 a.m. CST. You will be blown away!
Not sure it will push the stock to 170 but expect another very good quarterly report later this month. Growth will be solid and profit will be much higher than analysts expect. Monish's good work is paying off for shareholders!
Re: Like it or not Monish is a very effective CFO and has cut ALOT of costs. There is a reason he makes 8 million a year and all we do is whine on this board and feel sorry for ourselves.
Gross. "ALOT" is 2 words.
What we have learned here. Never buy stocks in company you work for. If company is doing well your paycheck going to reflect that. If not you lose money from both.
Yes in fact i saw a segment marketing ppt that said so the other day! They promise its real so….
Lol
I am sure on this board are angry with 3M and management, but IMO - taking personal emotions out of the equation- and really looking at the CF vs peer companies, I think the stock can EASILY go back to 170 this year. Cynical stocks like 3M always bottom at this point I'd a recession. When a mild recession is confirmed, and the Fed cuts rates, the stock will bounce to 150 and if there is a positive hearing development, 170 is the new target. Like it or not Monish is a very effective CFO and has cut ALOT of costs. There is a reason he makes 8 million a year and all we do is whine on this board and feel sorry for ourselves.
In a near future, the answer is no, unless 3M launches a breakthrough product (which is not seen for decades maybe?).
I went through from $130 to $250 and luckily dumped some stock shares around the $250 peak, but still holding some and did not find a best chance to off the boat.
Advice I learned from senior employee is don't hold large quantity of stocks for the company you work for, to leverage between gain and risk.
A corporate split, such as a spin-off or a divestiture, can have different effects on a company's stock price depending on various factors such as the nature of the business being split off, the motivations behind the split, and market conditions.
Sometimes, a corporate split can lead to an increase in the value of the remaining company as well as the new company. This can happen if the split allows each company to focus on its core competencies and become more efficient, which can result in increased profitability. Additionally, the market may see the split as a way for the company to unlock value that was previously hidden, which can also lead to an increase in the stock price.
However, it's not always the case that a corporate split will result in an increase in a company's stock price, as the market's reaction to the split may not always be positive. Some investors may be concerned about the potential risks and uncertainties of the split, which can lead to a decline in the stock price. The market may see the split as a sign of weakness or that the company is facing financial difficulties.
It is also important to note that even when the company's stock price is increasing, it is not a guarantee that the stock price will continue to increase, there are many factors that can affect the stock prices such as company performance, economic conditions, market trends, and other factors.
It's important to keep in mind that this is just a general overview and it is hard to predict stock prices, as the stock market is subject to various uncertain factors, and therefore it's important to consult with financial professional and do your own research to make any investment decision.
It is highly likely to reach 170 within 2 years. Legal issues are way overblown. They are significant yes, but not more than 20B and the plaintiffs are way better off with 3M in business, generating cash vs. bankruptcy.
Legal will drag on but as fed lowers rates in 2023 and hearing liab is limited thru court action or settlement, stock could get above 150 easily, even on flat CF.
- ..who knows but 2 years is a long time....
I think in the next 5 years prices of $170 and zero (bankruptcy) have a similar chance.
Positives:
- The SpinCo move might net a positive to share price. (Spinco + 3M might be worth more than 3M today)
- 3M is still a reasonably solid cash cow. Plenty of profitable businesses on mostly paid-for equipment.
Negatives:
- - 3M has not grown profits materially above market for a decade or more.
- The litigation risk is huge, and could easily wipe out years of profits. - This will drive a potential bankruptcy.
- 3M's current leadership is frankly, cr-p. They have no idea how to actually lead, they are all over-promoted middle managers. Not one coherent future vision between them.
Looks most unlikely.
The practical strategy should be to sell off at a minimum loss...stock will unlikely reach $150 or so...think of the tsunami of litigations, spin off of health care, dissolution of PFAS related business, and zero to little organic growth for the future.
Also if US enters an economic recession in 2023, stock will likely dive to double digit nos. Also might happen if 3M decides to cut dividend in the near future.
Dumped my shares at a significant loss but even if 3M somehow navigates through the PFAS and earplugs liabilities without going bankrupt, where is the organic growth to drive future earnings? What big products are in the pipeline to justify the spending on research? How much has already been lost with customer connectivity thanks to Mike's playbook and A3M? Will tireman ever earn his gold plated salary?
Where's the free Starbucks, eh?
honestly, it is a hard call, spinco is a positive but detriment to that is the hearing claims issue, this is going to be decided by what other senior judges decide as the counter claims against Judge Rodgers bias decision will be fought this year. hang tight until August and the light might just be brighter
