Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Is it possible to make your job any safer?

I do care about keeping my job here but it seems unlikely that one could make their position any safer regardless of how much the employee is dedicated to their work.

Jump on the bandwagon of project like Pheonix that will keep you safe for minimum 3 to 5 years. Thereafter, seek another project mid way.

I suggest you stop the two-faced disguise of fighting for the common man and get back to a&&-l1ck1ng your superiors. You’ll be the first to rise and applaud PB on Thursday. Count on it.

Well done. You for one have mastered the fine art of making your job safe! I bet you have also been at GF for 10 years and not into burning bridges :)

My department actually got it right with the people let go so far. They were not really contributing meaningfully. I feel bad for them regardless but at least I can say my bosses got it right.

Completely agree, there are some phenomenal people who have been let go. It's possible to see the logic behind some but not all of the choices.
Squawking about boot (or whatever) licking does nothing other than degrades the impression of anyone that is left.
..... and I strongly suspect that a large number of those trolling or trashing these threads have not been let go or may not be here anymore (hence some of the BS or inaccurate sev notices).
I only say this because all those who have genuinely been impacted or dropped messages here in the threads don't troll, they accept and they look for support.
So unless you've been impacted I'd suggest you shut the f@@k up and take your toxic s@@t elsewhere to some sub-reddit counter revolutionary BS market where you can bask in your "told you so" echo chamber.

Been over 10 years here, I can say.. no one is truly safe.

I have seen level 10 technical experts/ holding key portfolio getting axed
Level 9/8 due to reorganisation and "transferred" to areas not within their expertise getting axed
Level 4/5 new hires getting axed
Excellent managers getting axed that their direct reports actually cried

It is part and parcel of life, and nothing is fair.
But one thing to take note is never burn your bridges, the world is a small place. You never know what will happen in the future

We can inly

Yes of course you can. Polish and lick your managers boots . Praise him/her/it at every opportunity (specially in front of his:her/it managers) for his/her/ it beauty, intelligence/leadership skills. Don’t forget to give all the credit for your own and colleagues work to he/it/she. And remember oneGF team thing

At Globalfoundries no… you can become a subject matter expert (sme) on a niche topic and sure that will help a bit. But if you do over time you realize how grossly underpaid you are and want to leave on your own accord.
