Waiver wire in January

I'm hearing rumors that due to an excessively high number of No's to mobility, there's the creation of a third bucket of folks for January. Calling it the waiver wire/floaters on hot standby, for those not formally provided an initial position. Thoughts?

@af The situation is way different now compared to the 90s. The company has significant leverage with ExxonMobil GBCs having the potential and competencies on taking on so many different positions at a fraction of what it costs the company. For example, what are Dataflex specialists doing now since that archaic system has been retired?

You will not be offered a detailed employment contract. It will vary based on business function. In some instances very ambiguous and lacking any material detail except that you will have A job. Be wary of what you sign

Is there any possibility at all that they will let us know in Nov for termination in Jan? For some of us who are definitely not open or being consider as part of the new org? I'm just waiting around here...

Same thing happened in 1990-92. More people accepted the offer to quit/go (people working at that time called it the “golden handshake”) than what management anticipated. Eventually, they had to pay out premium (in the form of promotions and salary bumps) to keep some of the people they needed desperately.

Don’t respond by saying BYC can cover this time. There are some jobs that NO ONE even in BTC can do.

I would say it’s because they have a lot of yes’s. People trying to get their Rsu’s. If you say yes and they don’t offer you a role they get them. But a lot of people say yes and then say no when offered a role and you have said no to a bunch of people that would move. So they are prepping for false yes’s!

That’s the way I read the Q&As that came out on GoTo/Canada- you will be given one of three communications in January- 1) severed, 2) job offer w/ new location, role and salary, or 3) reserve pool that can be called upon if other people say “no”.

I guess those people will be in limbo for a while as mgmt iterates through the new org. I don’t know if that’s “hot standby”, to me it seems more like you’re just on the bench waiting extra long to find out if you have a job.

@OP There are three options for what you may be told in January. You may be offered a position. You may be told you are surplus. Or you may be in a “redeployment pool”. If you are in the redeployment pool, you are basically considered for positions that are turned down by people who were originally offered the role.
