Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

A reality check!

So....as a retired SF person, I have a question..... Does anyone who is actually still employed there believe all the horses**t that is put up on this site?

I retired 3 years ago after 20 years at the 'Farm', and after having worked at several different 'careers' in my lifetime, I can honestly say that State Farm, in spite of all the bullsh** that you see here, is undeniably one of the better places to work that I have ever encountered.

Are there problems there? Of course. Only an id--t would think not.

Could things be better there? Of course. Only......(see above)....

Name a place of employment where none of that is true. Of course you can't. Why? Because there aren't any .... DUH........

If you were born independently wealthy (Damn!! Not me...) would that be better than working at the Farm? Well.....DUH....

So, to those of you who are so convinced that SF is the worst thing that ever came down the pike, I suppose the only thing I could possibly say is....

Start yout own, new, insurance company. Do what GJ did. Do it better. Show everyone how much better it can be.

Based on some of the stuff I see here, I'm sure seversl of you believe you have the stuff to do it.

Good Luck!

Its nice to have some where to vent without facing retaliation. There is at least one or two deranged posters who post like 4 times a day. Luckily their posting style, writing style, and language choices are very easy to spot.

Other than that poster, and a poster or two that I feel are from the company trying to make this website "unpleasant to use" to try to stop people from venting. These are the mean posters you see here. These are the people calling everyone d-mb/bad workers/ "good leave and never come back" basically.

Other than I would say the two above mentioned posters, this site is just a decent place to vent about the absolute ridiculous nature of our management. It surprises friends and family every time I bring up work and would be no surprise how active the forums are here for this company.

Do better management, and people wont need to vent here.

Isn't it great to be retired. Shot a bull elk and two wild hogs this year. Much better than sitting in a desk and being around a bunch of lying pencil necks.

When considering anything written on this site keep in mind this quote:
"The average person is not that smart. Half the people out there are d-mber than them."

If your retired and were a career farm gal/guy you lived a different life. No surveillance. Respect. Career lives and pay. Work balance and probably made more than you deserved or were worth. Charmed $$ retirees with big pensions and easy jobs or “analyst” don’t count as reality - maybe you lived in a bubble of the unreal like so many charmed career bees and those paid big bucks to leave or so called retire.

Boomers are always ready to slave for the rich. And they’re proud of it… Shows how weak and gullible they are.

Health insurance sucks and it’s expensive. Good health insurance allows your kids to stay on it until they are 27-30…..

since when is struggling an accepted condition?? i get it not everything is butterflies and rosses life in general is full of issues but work has gotten worst in the past decade than it should be, the sheer amount of micromanagement and the low pay that doesn't keep up with inflation is a real thing, the severe understaffing in claims and the fact SF wont pay more than fast food rates for a job that is 100% more complex is also insulting, i can tell you even with the great rescission of '08-09' things were not as bad as now , cost of living is worst now than before but SF just opted to give miserable raises,

"They have never had to struggle with the economy, and they grew up in the "everyone gets a participation trophy" "

that comment is so condescending and pure BS, i am sure there are some people out there like that but no, pointing out the sh---y work conditions and the tone deaf attitude is not entitled , its the truth.

there is always someone like you pointing out how its worst every where there fo-e is acceptable , NO! , it used to be better at SF and SF refuses to treat people with decency now.

what's next you going to point out how we should be thankful for the privilege of working at SF?
sheesh ...

Still employed there, it’s definitely not the worst job I’ve ever had. We have really decent health insurance compared to other jobs I’ve had. Do I get frustrated? Yes. Do we have problems? Also yes. Would I still rather be here? Yes.

I started as an external 20 years ago and have worked in many large companies in central Illinois. When I started, SF was one of the best I've worked at. There were many more employees than needed to accomplish the work, the benefits, pay, pension was good for central Illinois.

Over the past few years, employee count has been reduced, pension has been lost and the culture has suffered, but SF is still a decent place to work for......for central Illinois...for people like you and I and the rest of our generation.

The main issue as I see it is that the latest crop of employees have a much different attitude toward work. They have never had to struggle with the economy, and they grew up in the "everyone gets a participation trophy" generation, while at the same time living with the internet that gives them the false illusion that everyone else has a much better life and they are somehow missing out and should deserve everything they read on the internet.

No doubt, the current state farm isn't the old state farm, but it isn't as terrible as it seems on this site.

Granted, there are areas where the workload is more difficult than others, but I feel the major issue there is that the current workforce has never struggled and gets the impression that they are barely surviving.

You can see with many comments in this thread and others with remarks directed to "boomers", that many of the complainers are young with little other work experiences, and don't have a full understanding of what good/bad work environments are.

What department? Very different experiences depending on the department you are in.
