Im 50. My position was eliminated on Tuesday. During my Zoom session with line manager and HR I asked how my standing would fare with an active application for another role in PepsiCo. The HR rep Indicated that an individual had been identified. But I have yet to be officially rejected. My last day is Friday. Do I have any recourse as the process seems disingenuous?

Unless you have a written employment contract with your employer, neither of you are legally required to give two weeks notice, etc because most states have at-will employment laws absent an individual employment contract or a collective bargaining agreement (union).
This is the only way Vanguard can survive (for the time being)
Take the package and run.
Women empowerment has spoiled the talent pipeline and culture of Pepsi, not that it was outstanding earlier. Promotions at Pepsi go in waves. Right now is the wave for women to d-mb old school racist whites.
Move on. It is a great thing to be free. I see useless people all senior managers and directors by virtue of knowing nothing. Most being Indians and they favor their own kind
You're laid off. That indicates company doesn't want you in your current or any other role. Just move on... and have some dignity. Why would you want to consider the same company which stabbed you already.
I'm not sure I understand what type of recourse you are looking for? To be fair, it has sometimes taken a month or more to get a final 'no' after the interview process was over. If they have chosen someone else, you have no recourse.
They will retain incompetence and terminate highly effective employees. Remain incompetent and you have a chance of a long career.
Short answer - you do not have recourse. You will be blocked in the system from getting another PEP job. Whoever said to call the speak up line is living in a fantasy world. Many people will give bad advice like that. It gives false hope that there is a way. People should be more careful about that kind of advice when they don't know what they are talking about. You are vulnerable and sore right now. You just need to take some time to clear your head but not too much time then get back to finding something else. Good luck.
I went through the ageism piece in Feb. 2018. There's light at the end of the tunnel. The entire process is cold and heartless, but after taking several days to just decompress, I learned that there are many former colleagues, just like me, who quickly moved onto greener pastures.
Do not make decisions based on emotions at this time. If another job opens during your severance you can apply for it. You want to get references from former manager for inside & outside the company
I’ve been in your situation & I’m glad I stayed unemotional & professional
If any concerns, contact an attorney. When outsourced by PepsiCo I asked for clarification re. conflicting clauses within notice letter, which also contradicted the "tome" of legalese from Legal. The HR team working on the outsourcing could not / would not answer and said "ask your lawyer". Clueless, useless. Also... read every page very carefully because if you decline another role or accept another role they will probably declare severance off the table. "Caveat Employee"
Pepsi is notorious for ageism. What we need is a class action suit.
The Speak Up line is a career ender. Don't do it. Get an attorney, using your Group Legal, to review the docs.
I would make sure to open a case with the Speak Up line. You can do it online or via phone. You don’t have to include your name, but make sure you have necessary documentation.
There seems to be an “age” discrimination theme going on within the company. Recently 1,750 individuals aged 55+ in sector and other parts, were offered “early retirement packages.” They we’re looking to reduce each group by a certain percentage.
They provided a document that had everyone’s location, title, and age (privacy issue) that had been offered the package. It wasn’t rocket science to figure out who the individuals were that the company considered “eligible “ which equates to “too old to work here.”
Initially it seemed like a good deal until you read the terms. If approved and you sign the agreement you forfeit your Constitutional rights under Title VII.
If you feel you are being “selected” due to your age, please reach out to the Speak Up line. I’ve used them multiple times and have seen action taken. The more people that bring forth formal complaints then the more eyes on what is really going on within the company.
Just sounds like PepsiCo being PepsiCo.
