Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

A different kind of “thanks” to Schwab management.

I was laid off a couple years ago from at Schwab. And I admit that at the time I was pretty worried about my future and aLeo angry at the sleezy shenanigans that went down in my management chain that got me on the list.

But you know what? It, honestly, was the best thing that could ever have happened to me.

It turns out, laying me off from the worst employer I’ve ever had
In my career, gave me the motivation to go over my finances with a fine toothed comb and push me hard enough to actually try the “semi retired “thing and I have been living the high life ever since! I’ve taken a half dozen trips, started some new hobbies, spent more time with friends, taken some freelance work on occasion when I decided I wanted to not because I had to… I am a much happier person overall than I ever was when I was working at Schwab.

So I guess, in a way, I’d like to THANK Schwab for being such a miserable place at work that it forced me to think of other possibilities I might not have considered otherwise.

So my advice to you, if you are in a similar position and can make it happen, maybe it’s something you should think about!

After all, why your remaining years of full time employment working for mo--ns? Just something to think about.

Yes, you're so super happy at your new job that you came here to STILL talk about this one?

Move on, stalker.

@ft because it was the most toxic place we've ever work and we still care about the employees we worked with and some are still friends. On here we can get insight to what they are going thru. Sympathize with them.

You’re lucky. Many still haven’t found jobs and that is why they live “rent free in people’s heads” . It is one of the worst things in life that you can experience. Many very good, well educated and great employees lost their jobs and can not find new ones. Until it happens to you you will NEVER understand how traumatic it is. It is a disgusting thing to do to good or great employees and don’t think they won’t do it to you. That layoff proved they will do it to anyone without caring or having any remorse.

@m3 100% agree. My group is fairly new. Only place I can get confirmation I'm not insane. And that it's been building for a long time.

@kn

Once again showing everyone that Schwab isn't family and that twits are unkind. I welcome those who are no longer with us. They can speak openly about buried bodies.

Yeah but youre old. Some of us are young and being laid off would not be rad. Early retirement..don’t thank so.

@dt I actually exited the space completely. Went into tech space and it's alot more modern thinking vs hamster on a wheel in a corporate office. Its crazy. Having all my licenses up to series 4 and I couldn't find anything earlier this year. So I went ans changed fields. Within 1 month of applying got like 4 callbacks. Do what you have to do to improve your life and don't be like everyone else complaining about C suite policies. That's my best advice I can give you.

I concur. I recently left schwab. Best decision ever. I felt like I should have jumped ship years ago now being on the outside. Unlimited PTO at my new company. Management that listens and can relate. Low stress, better quality of life overall.

The mental clarity and happiness is unreal as after being a rat on a spinning wheel for so long.

This and the lengthy list of those politically removed who went on to better jobs and stronger careers. Schwab used to be a good place. That changed many times. The BofA sale. Dave Pottruck, OX, Cyber and now Ricky. Walt doesn’t get a pass, but it’s worse now with McKinsey influences. STS is a cesspool of bullies and clowns. Other departments aren’t much better, but working with STS for my business projects is a slow motion train wreck with Kafkaesque pageantry.
