Do people realize that professional ethics and hard work mean nothing?

A lot of us work hard and stick to our own ethics because that’s just who we are. Some of us even get real satisfaction from doing the job well, no matter the company or surroundings. But don’t expect rewards, loyalty, or appreciation. You’ll be cut just as fast as the slacker next to you, maybe even faster. There’s no corporate culture left to speak of, if there ever was any.

i learned 30 years ago corporations are slave owners. i milked every one of them any way was possible. i broke rules all the time and still do. do i care? he-l no. would i do it again? every single time. am i rich because of it? yeah and i sleep happy knowing that. take em for everything they got

I worked hard and had outstanding accomplishments. Management laid me off and took all the credit of my hard work and accomplishments. This way management could keep their job. This is Cisco's corporate culture!!

Go ahead and define corporate culture for me...I'll wait. Spoiler alert; it's different for every person in every company.

Corporate culture and layoffs have exactly zero overlap. If you disagree, you clearly don't understand business.

And in a business, morals & ethics do not exist; generally the question is what is legal in a state/country/province, then what aligns with company policy, and even then, it sometimes doesn't matter if you violate either.

Doing your job 'well' may or may not bring actual value to the company, and it may or may not align with the company's future strategy. Same goes for 'hard work'. Maybe you're "working hard" because you're slow and/or inefficient? I'd prefer the employee who gets the job done without 'working hard'.

OP, every point you made illustrates a fundamental misunderstanding of how to run a business, and how to be an employee in a business. Too bad there's a ton of ppl like you, at Cisco and elsewhere.

The participation trophy generation is finally getting the reckoning their parents robbed them of as children. Your anger is misplaced.

"My ethics" refers to your own system of moral principles, values, and beliefs that guide your personal conduct and decision-making.
This is your estimation of what is right and what is wrong.
The good and bad.
It's shaped by your upbringing, society, and personal reflections and it serves as a standard for judging your own and others' actions.

Now, you referred to the "slacker" next to you which is again a value judgement. Who is to say that the slacker is indeed slacking? Perhaps they believe, rightfully so using the benchmark of "their ethics" that you are the one at fault.

You assume that a soulless corporate entity such as Cisco exhibits ethics.

have you opened your eyes?
rewards go to the most unethical players. How much overpriced Cisco product sits in a warehouse because some unscrupulous salesperson sold it knowing the customer could not implement?

loyalty?
How many former Cisco executives work for competitors? How many leaders keep in contact with the recently ghosted?
appreciation?
Nepotism is becoming endemic at Cisco.
