@cy What firm systems? I have worked with just my laptop and a wifi connection while traveling across the country.
@cx actually prior to PP leaders and associates did relocated to Saint Louis. The change in this requirement can be traced to the erosion of our culture!!! Hence why we have the New York penthouse !
@cm I think the better solution to your bitterness is for roles that can be done remotely to be allowed to do so regardless of that person's proximity to a home office. Instead of getting mad at fully remote employees, get mad at the systems that require you to be in the office even if your work doesnt have to be done there. You are mad at the wrong people. They could not pay me enough to move to STL. I would never do it. Also if you think we have no accountability you are wrong. Additionally, we have to be plugged into to firm systems. I must work from my home. I can't just take my laptop and go off somewhere. You are just extremely mistaken. I agree requiring people to RTO when people are in their same role but remote is wrong. But the solution is more flexibility. Not less.
@cg, @cm and others like them are beset by “crab mentality” - just because I can’t have it neither should the rest. They are full of envy, resentment and insecurity.
If HBAs were forced to move to St Louis, have you thought about how disruptive it would be to uproot their families.
And a reality check…. No one is moving to St. Louis for a job.
@OP so back to originally scheduled broadcasting. Anybody have a recent layoff or demotion? Waiting for one and not received anything yet.
@cm couldn’t you have saved your comments for another day?
@cp Admit it, your real motive is to turn this good thread into a divisive HBA vs. RTO debate. If I'm wrong, you'll take this to its own thread and let people talk here about what is happening real time, instead of debating something the firm has been doing for decades.
@cp It's not my fault St. Louis is devoid of talent in my area. It's not my fault St. Louis is the fastest shrinking city in America. Trust me, they've tried to fill roles on my team locally. I didn't ask the firm to make you come back to the office.
@cq hoping a HR/GP 1x1 is in your immediate future.
@cm I wouldn't have taken this sh!tty job if it wasn't fully remote. Go pound sand (in the office) please.
@cn I’m not a boomer, I’m just don’t think it’s fair to require some people to go in the office to sit in meetings with people in their PJs. Maybe admit the you are in favor you is because it benefits you and you don’t give a damn about how it unfairly impacts others.
@cm Say you're a boomer, without saying it.
@cg I hope HBAs are required to move to a home office. It’s ridiculous to force some associates to commute and have their attendance tracked just sit on Zoom calls with HBAs that have zero accountability related to when and where they work.
Not to mention the costs imposed on hybrid employees for getting ready to go in the office, drive time, work attire, gas, car maintenance, etc.
RTO is an indisputable penalty in terms of time and money that should be applied to all workers. Allowing an HBA privileged class will ultimately result in nothing but hatred from hybrid workers and the hollowing out of any semblance of culture or community. The firm should require all HBAs to report to a home office location Jan 1 2026 to level the playing field. Full
@ce it's different because allegedly everyone with my role is being let go, so I don't want them to find out through the grapevine or in a backdoor way. I am keeping it quiet for them too.
@cg many pickup their kids, have Dr appointments, etc. I’m not talking about watching your kids all day, I’m talking about realities you don’t understand. There are some single parents families out there. Be respectful. If your team is not flexible then sorry for you. Flexibility is all we have left here. Many companies allow flexibility even with in office 5 days a week. Some start at 7am and leave at 3pm.
@cg lol no one is moving to St. Louis for a job at Edward fu--ing Jones.
@c1 it was a 15 minute Outlook invite from my GP 15 minutes before, with an HR person also on the invite.
@cc TELL ANYONE YOU WANT! This is YOUR career. Your job. You have a right to speak about it. What can they do to you, fire you?!? THEY ALREADY DID!! Don’t let these je-ks pressure you into silence so they can craft their own narrative behind the scenes. They will not silence me!!!
@ca sadly, some teams still have meetings and work to do… apparently I am one of them… so when I have to tell my leader that I can’t get my job done, I pray they understand. I do, don’t let my reply make you think that. Just frustrating because NO ONE should be working. But alas… some people don’t care about what’s happening, it’s clear in the things being asked of my team today.
@c9 if we are impacted we were asked not to tell anyone until Wednesday. So they may not be able to tell you.
@c9 With all due respect, there's a reason they asked people to clear all meetings off the schedule for today and tomorrow. I don't think it's too much for me to ask people to just reconsider whether they absolutely need to send messages like that today and tomorrow. I don't know what to say if you don't understand why.
@c7 In reply to emailing those with action items for those who have been notified of their role: how the heck are we supposed to know if you were impacted?
I’d rather have you reply saying that so I know to back off versus assuming we automatically know.
@c7 100% agree. There should be little to no work being done today and tomorrow. The firm wanted this. Only critical prod issues should be addressed.
Dear colleagues who are (for now) keeping their jobs: Kindly reconsider whether today or tomorrow are the best days to be send messages pressuring people to prioritize certain projects tasks when you KNOW some of us are being laid off. Here I am trying to process having lost my job when I'm receiving messages like that. And I can't even reply back "Hey, I'm kinda going through something pretty heavy today and doing the best I can."
It's not overly human-centered, even though I know that ship has already sailed.
Just completely tone-deaf.
@c5 so don’t join.
What will they do, fire you?
@bz if you’re at lunch and miss the invite. Or picking your kids up from school. A 15 min notice is not enough time IMO.
@bq .... omg.... I am so sorry
@b5 add some GPs up from you in a new meeting invite. While you cant see details there are short blocks throughout their day today and tomorrow unlike normal days.
I have an upcoming meeting, i got invited like 5 hrs in advance.....a leader of associates. i dont see any hr on my invite, hoping for the best! Good luck everyone!
@bq was HR on the invite or did they just pop in?
@by the only ones I am seeing so far is leaders of leaders and leaders of associates with these 15 min slots. The regular associates on my team don’t have any 15 min slots yet that I can see.
@by why wouldn't you show up? You're delaying the inevitable
@bx confirmed that 15 min meetings are out there. They prob forward them to the associate 15-30 min ahead of time. Wonder what happens if you don’t show up. They call your personal mobile?
@OP So if you see a 15 minute private appointment on someone's calendar...this is probably their layoff time?
Are they letting off people on the same teams around the same time or is this seemingly random? Two teammates let go this morning. Silence since then.
@bn they’ve basically said it already without saying it. I would be mildly surprised if we weren’t fully in office this time next year (if we are still here)
If you’re ok with telling what area you were in?
@bp yes and yes. The role is eliminated, not just my personal position.
@bq did they say take the rest of the day off or did they say keep working. Either way I’d suggest not working today. Also, sorry this happened to you. Take care.
I got let go. Zoom invite 15 minutes prior. GP and HR on the call.
