Informed in late August of layoff, with 45 days notice before job was eliminated. Had 15 days to hand off work stuff while figuring out next steps (severance package, health insurance, pension, etc) before access to all things 3M was terminated. That was brutal!

The severance package was generous (6 month pay), and since I was of retirement age and on portfolio 1, the medical benefit (RMSA) was very good (3M pays 40-60% of my medical premiums until I die. I did not expect this!).

I was put on the PIP, even though I was not the worst performer in the group. I refused the mandate and played the game while looking for a new gig. The only thing I am commited to is my family (higher chances of succeeding). At the end, I do not rely on "managers" who have to go to school to "learn" management skills.
