If Ford can't build a reliable vehicle for $50k, just wait to see what you get with $30k! You'll get $20k worth of recalls or a garage that goes up in flames!

“And even beyond that, their cost, their quality of their vehicles is far superior to what I see in the West,” Farley continued. “We are in a global competition with China, and it’s not just EVs. And if we lose this we do not have a future at Ford.”
Unfortunately, Ford decided to prioritize oppositional relations with their employee base.
Guess what? Many of us aren't invested in Ford's future, due solely to Ford's actions. Disengaged workers are happy to watch things fail, if not taking an active role.
$30k I will believe it as soon as I see DF walk on water wearing those pink bunny slippers.
The $30K vehicle will eventually cost $40-45K and be delayed until 2035. Nobody (other than LL’s) will drive them. Ford is so cooked!
I'd don't understand the target market to buy this new $30K EV? I think I read its targeted a Budget Conscious Consumers and families who don't have time to charge a vehicle when you factor real life, I don't know; maybe small businesses? Considering sunk costs for EVs already, how to make enough margin to make this a profitable endeavor. Seems to me we should have pivoted to more hybrids given government support of EVs is in the toilet now.
@d9+1k2jm7nw5 those dodges do look pretty cool and the fake sound is startling when you hear it rumble by. that is one honkin' subwoofer! seems optional though. too pricey as you point out. loaded up w/ options including that subwoofer & related.
And you guys thought I was making it up when I said Ford was breaking back the electric scooter. But how can they charge so much? Simple. Read the bill of sale fine print: BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED".
You mean a $60k all electric muscle car with fake V8 sound effects isn't selling? I am shocked. Shocked I tell you.
@ck no sh--e Sherlock it is too expensive and nobody wants an ev muscle car.
@a4 Exactly. One car for all. Remember, DF is the subscription master. We just have to figure out how to hack the cars, then we can unlock everything for nothing.
Go talk to the people who worked on the ev only 24MY dodge charger and tell us how that vehicle is doing in sales
If it was possible they would have more to show than just promises.
It buys them a little more time. Now they’ll do small layoffs, performance based separations and RTO attrition. They’ll ride this wave for as long as they can and then just focus on trucks.
The basically brand new Magna EV factory here in Michigan is currently operating at 30% but I'm hearing rumors it may be totally shutting down. I believe it's around one million Sq ft. It's in a rural area and looks totally out of place I have no idea what they could ever find to repurpose a facility that size in this area.
$30K is based on competing against China, not Tesla. I think it was a possibility for the base model before the Orange Glow was elected and ki-led the $7,500 EV incentive, but now I doubt it.
The majority of EVs in China fall within the $20,000 to $30,000 range.
keep dreaming
@ae, Regardless of whether you work in a blue or red state, current trends point that ICE vehicles are likely to become a more niche product within the next decade, similar to manual transmissions today. The EU maintains its commitment to the 2035 phaseout, while CN continues its push to electric vehicle adoption. Whoever heavily invests in ICE technology will be left in the dust.
@a8 the hardware has to be capable from day one, powered motors, electronic control units, the wiring harness, sensors, all already in place.
The “bare-bones” part is really about the software lock on those capabilities, not physically stripping them out.
You upsell on features that can be purely software-gated like torque maps, driver-assist algorithms, infotainment apps
To the yuppie nerd that called ICE junk….
You need to find another job in a woke state.
Ford is scared of SLATE - their 25K debut. Always trying to compete behind the tail. Nothing innovative.
What's so laughable about a 30K EV car?
I can buy the 2025 Escape PHEV for $ 32,000 before taxes with all those discounts, that is ICE and EV in a single package.
This new CE1 car, will be a similar size envelope, cheaper cells, no ice junk.
Farley is just talking out his a$$. By the time Ford realizes this can't be done by 2027, he will be long gone, and forever a scapegoat.
Back from the past for on $30k.
@a4 ok...please explain to me the physics behind building a bare bone manual hand crank window and charger a subscription to download subscription service to make it fancy? how do you download a sw on a manual mechanical hand crank window... or are you going to send a guy to drive with me and crank down my window if I subscribe to that? in order for you to charge subscription... all the modules and HW have to be high end to have the capabilities to accept it in the future.. to spend monies on these high end capabiities for the HW will cause the price of the vehicle to be more expensive than the 30k probably by 2x. genius SW engineers like you that cause us to loose 4bills per year and have 90+ recalls.
$30K will never happen...even with inflation alone. It's to try and su---r in investors, but won't work. Another Farley bonehead idea....just like he thought EV was going to take over in 2021. lol
The idea is to offer a bare bones EV. Then charge a subscription for premium features and services
