Let me see if I’ve got this straight

If you’re a good employee, if you’ve been here a while, if you know what you’re doing, if you always go above and beyond, you’re the one who gets cut.

But if you’re lazy, clueless, and just good at kissing the right a-s, you’re safe?

Yep. Pretty much it. It's about playing the game, and playing the game is kissing the right a**es. It's that way throughout corporate America. Even better if you can "out" and destroy the people who threaten the illusion of corporate civility and fair play. That's one of the funnest parts of the game, and some people make their whole career out of it.
