How much was the retention bonus?
@OP I was offered a retention bonus and left prior to getting it. It was completely demoralizing staying and training my replacement in India. Long hours for no respect... I took a chance at another company and left prior to getting the retention

What to say about this, you know they gave me good retention bonus to keep me around :)
I am happy with my job, +bonus + salary. But the strategy would have impacted others.
One of the biggest mistakes they have made with the quarterly RIFs is at no point have they asked for volunteers.
Its a massive issue for morale of the remaining staff, especially when getting rid of great colleagues who want to stay.
