Thread regarding Ford layoffs

What is this news about Aug 11 being a model T moment

Anyone any idea? Did the skunk work team deliver any production model which ford is going to show to world on Aug 11? Looks like lot of other orgs will be redundant after that for sure

I feel we need more than just an announcement for a near future platform and EV model T. We and markets need the vehicles to exist, being produced and sold now-ish: Model T now, not maybe in 2027 given SW, HW and plants are not ready yet. I am so tired of promises.

They'll announce a new EV model with a bunch of vaporware software. They'll open a reservation system (have to follow Tesla right?). They'll start touting the number of reservations as if they are already sales.

When the actual model comes out in 2028, by then the price will have doubled, 85% of reservations will be canceled or people won't take delivery. They will be OTAing daily bug fixes because the software is cr-p. And there will be a dozen recalls in the first six months.

At Ford Quality is Job None.

If this is a release of a new vehicle, would the cars be at the dealership for purchase on the 11th? Or would it like be a week after

Wait..so making money and bringing in profit is secondary at Ford? Is that what you mean? I thought businesses needed money to exist. Crazy I know...

Jim Farley touted the FNV4 project as a game changer for the company. He compared it to when the F150 went to an aluminum body in a meeting with employees. Less than six months later, FNV4 was cancelled.

Skunkworks is a team of 'self-titled' smartest people in the industry. People who've literally never delivered something that they're promising; promising to do what very experienced employees have not done. Yet we're supposed to believe they will do it.

If this is what is known as CE1, there is no car yet, the only thing they are going to present is a concept several years away.

It better hover, get twice the range of the best EV's on the market, or be incredibly affordable, because otherwise it'll just be another underwhelming Ford.

@b4 1. Tesla exit: pushed Model 3 ramp, claimed success, quietly shown the door right before the bleeding turned into record deliveries engineered without him.

  1. Apple Car: spent 7 years, >$8 B, canned for zero product. Internal reports blame “organizational entropy”—translation: meetings beat garages.
  2. Ford Model e 2025: under his watch Skunk-Works CE1 is months late, over-budget, and still running diagnostic logs by e-mailing encrypted zip files off the test mules. Software release velocity: one major branch every 12 weeks, gated by PowerPoint business reviews. That’s the literal opposite of “infinite capacity to not know what can’t be done.”

@b4 that little fraud maxed is talking a big game on “changing the course of the auto industry” while running the usual OEM bureaucracy doesn’t fool anyone who’s shipped real features under real deadlines. Lead, or get honest and rewrite the LinkedIn bio: “Looking for obedient staff to execute Power-Point-driven roadmap with minimal resistance, pay not guaranteed.”

You don't know what you are talking about. DF is the top leader in software at Ford and has more technical expertise than you or most in his organization.

@b0 "Intellectually incurious exam maxxing Kumon monsters" refers to students who prioritize rote memorization and high-stakes test performance—often via programs like Kumon—over genuine curiosity or deep learning. They excel in admissions but may lack broader intellectual engagement.

@ar Real readers read books to learn, Bugpeople use books as decoration and for social status points. Needless to say, geek culture and fake book idolatry go hand in hand.

Expect lots of adult graphic novels, Neil Gaiman, Harry Potter, self-help books, George RR Martin.

Don't expect: hard sci-fi, Russian classics, anything written before 1998, Bible.

You know this company proved a lot when I realized the hiring committee and HR did not get or understand software. They didn’t even understand it. Not one person who was in negotiating talks for hiring had a background in software.

Don't have high expectations. Skunkworks aka CE1 is late and over budget, many people working there don't know how modern diagnostics or modem works.
I hope the announcement will not be about SUV, pickup or anything similar that everybody has, no one wants, and there is 100x competition.

Not going to lie, very depressing to see our hallowed western university system turn into a network of Striver Universities for intellectually incurious exam maxxing Kumon monsters. Enabled by SAT preppers like Doug. Look at the hires or the internal transfers. Just like University, it’s all about conforming to a rigged system of participation and endurance based on complicity

Are they releasing their car, with their new integrated ev platform, to customers?

Model t means car. So I’m assuming they’re releasing the car for customers to purchase on the 11th, and that car has the ev platform they’ve been working on for a couple years.

What else would it be? Literally said model t. Model t = cat

And what have they went all in on? EV with a fancy perform. It’s obviously the release of the car to customers for purchase.
