The writing is on the wall. I haven’t gotten a raise in three years. I was told I would eventually transition from CW to perm but not anymore. I’ve had a manager on my team laid off last year. I’m coming back from furlough next week and based on previous posts in this forum I have a gut feeling that I’ll be next on the chopping block. This type of stress brings tears to my eyes because I’m terrible with money. I may end up homeless on the dirty streets without this job. Somebody… Anybody… PLEASE SAVE ME!

Let’s be honest here. HP is a dying company. The “glory days” are gone for good. Eventually everyone will be finished. Most of HP’s properties look like ghost towns.
HP whacked me several years ago. It was tough being unemployed, but I did get a much better job with higher pay, but most importantly, I now work at a company that values and respects me. HP never did.
My advice? Do all you can to actively look for other jobs NOW. Don’t wait for the inevitable layoff which is on the way.
Furloughs have to be affecting HP in a negative manner. All of the best CW developers left for better jobs when I was working as a CW at HP. Eventually, I found a much better job and doubled my salary and no furloughs. It’s a shame that HP (and HPE) treats their good CW’s so badly. I wonder what genius at HP thought that furloughs were a good idea?
Sounds like your main problem is money management skills. This issue will remain and likely create further problems over time even if you get a different job. You need to work in this first. There are plenty of online videos from people like Clark Howard, Dave Ramsey, and others who have advice. Focus on that regardless of what happens with your HP job.
"PLEASE SAVE ME!"
Sadly, only you can save yourself in your current situation since only those invested in speculative assets (stocks and cryptos) are seen as valuable in the current economy.
- Make an inventory of the things you buy or spend money on. You would be shocked how much money you can save. I save at least 2k a year on groceries using digital coupons on my apps.
- Eating out needs to be reduced to a minimum, but do treat yourself once in a while.
- Move to a smaller apartment before losing your job which makes your credit application easier.
- Ditch a car with high payments or high maintenance.
- Learn the skills to be independent. I saved 5k on labor by fixing several major items last year on my car.
You get the point.

I could have written that. No raise in 2.5 years but was promised one last year, it never came. My HP manager tried to get me transitioned to an HP employee and then he got sick and left. I was moved to another manager who barely knows what I actually do.
I share your stress, but I am building a nest egg should something happen. All I can say is save your money like crazy in preparation for that rainy day, heck a storm, that is coming.
No one is coming to save you. You need to get your act together.
