Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

What’s with all the rumors about August/September layoffs?

People are mentioning it might not just be tech. It’s not that I don’t expect more layoffs, but it would be great to know for sure if cuts are actually coming.

The WARN act is federal law. It’s pretty specific about what is required. States can also enforce their own requirements along with the federal requirements. The employer does not have to tell employees or the media. It’s a public filing. There’s no mystery here, the filing is location specific. If they layoff in California they just have to file there. If they layoff in Bentonville, that’s Arkansas and they just file there.

In California something called a WARN act means companies over X number of employees have to post the approximate number of layoffs something like 60 days in advance, which Walmart did earlier this summer. People are rightfully assuming it'll affect Bentonville tech too.

The number of affected is approx 500 for the combined California locations.
