Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Annual review has been disenfranchising for nearly everyone I have talked to

I had an excellent year- largest project, ahead on schedule, under on cost. I also had the worst review I've had so far at medtronic- a 3 and 2.5%. It didn't add up. I talked to my peers and everyone got similar.

I talked to directors in other OUs, and was told they had to give everyone 3s and to give anyone anything better, you had to literally walk on water.

I've worked for large companies all my life, and have always excelled. I've had reviews that seemed low but always had a silver lining or some rationale. This is the first time I've ever felt completely motivated to just do my job and nothing more. And for the first time ever, it seems literally everyone I talk to, it is the same conclusion.

If I hear "performance driven culture" one more time I'm going to lose it. That is not what this is. I understand intentional attrition may be a factor, but absolutely trashing your entire workforce and culture is way beyond that. We have turned a corner and unless there is an immediate acknowledgement that they Fd up, I'm unsure I can drive myself to perform at that high of a level again. I'm logging off, spending time with my family, and moving on emotionally from my mission.

@OP Logical post. You are not crazy or wrong. It’s a complete gaslighting affair.

It was bad for some. On one end, you have people like Linh in AI who abuse their employees. Overcommitted them, passed on their work as if it was her own (star of excellence) and then didn’t even thank them. Those people were rightly pi---d and they reported her to HR. It’s the new MDT way, to get your highs by sc--wing your own staff. Scott and Chris promoted her, so we know what kind of people they want around.
On the other end, you have people who worked hard and met their goals. This place!

I had gotten a 4. Then a RIF. So take that as you will.

MDT has been terrible for a while in recognizing exceptional performance. HR forces the distribution of 2, 3 etc.... to departments without regards to the work that group is doing - so you have recruited rock stars into a critical high stress project? Congrats they all need to be 3s, even if they would have been the hallowed 4s in their old team.

The review process this year has been abysmal. My manager wrote 3 sentences with chat gpt and none of them were feedback. I crushed every goal, worked on important fda submission, put in WAY over 40 hrs a week… honestly why bother with any of that if I’m getting a 2.5% raise regardless? Even people that I know absolutely ki-led themselves working on our fda sub last year got a 3, so it feels like 4 will NEVER happen.

Meanwhile we are hiring new people at the higher pay bands so that we are forced to train newbies who make $10k more than us for the same job

Last few years had bern given 3, regardless your dedication and effort. lol that is the company's choice...
unless you want to learn more process, prepare for next step up outside, doing the minimum might be the most logical.

It feels like MDT is asking employees to pay to work. Cut the salary with raise lower than inflation. Mandate 4 day RTO but only giving employees $325 per month to compensate commuting or parking in downtown Boston where parking is easily $35 a day.

Hey I did the calculation. My new salary with this 2.5% raise and 4 day RTO is now equivalent to 99% of my 2024 salary AND taking away another roughly $13500 pre-tax money

Some people I know got 3s got more than 5 percent. Although I think it was more because they got underpaid than performance related

Same here...It seals it for me. I am moving on. This place is for people who suffer from Stockholm Syndrome.

Confirm.
Had results sufficient to fund several FTEs and got an "expected" (3) with 2.5% increase .
Total slap in the face.

this years standard "awesome job" numbers were a "3 and 3%" anything below 3% was giving to equal out someone else lower pay rate. all managers an above already knew this soooo ,,, like jack welch said "I pay you a fair salary for a days work" Seems only fair people start to work 9-5.

Confirmed. At the end of the day, it’s a numbers game. Medtronic can only give out x amount of dollars for raises before it eats up the bloated raises and bonuses to the executives.

Very true, but they had to meet the numbers or our corporate officers would be out on the street, so this all helps for that to happen and they will get their bonus and raise. Any bets on that?
