Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Looking to apply for the Licensed Financial Services Representative position

I currently work at TIAA in the National Contact Center in Denver and will soon be laid off due to the office closure. I’m considering applying for a call center position at Charles Schwab and would appreciate any insights.

If anyone has made the transition from TIAA to Schwab, I’d love to hear about your experience what you like, what you don’t, and any pros and cons of working at Schwab. Thanks in advance for your help!

Licensed position.

You must (not if) pass the certification test(s) to have a job.

It would help to open more doors.

I (do not) recommend call center (anything) unless you are desperate.

OP— please go somewhere like maybe Glassdoor or talk to real employees vs. this site. This site has always been a giant and subpar Reddit type forum where you’re only popular if you’re exaggerating and complaining. If you want a career rather than a job and want to do it for a firm that has a foundation of doing what’s best for the clients, Schwab is one of the best. Fido is fine too. Neither are perfect but they get the core foundation and have great folks working there. But really, this site is a cess pool of misery and not a place to come for rational and productive discussion. The leadership is sub par and always trying to take from you to put in their own pockets. They are also not honest and have no accountability. However the lower level people are good people and the job is better than some. If you can let the corporate bs from the leadership not bother you then I would say go for it

Coming in with call center experience in financial services is a huge advantage. Your metrics are wrap time, handling time, and call quality (being nice to the client). The biggest hurdle is going to be knowing how to get the client the answer they’re looking for, but all of the hotlines have onboarding and training. If hired into one of these positions, expect to not be allow to apply for anything else internally for 12 months. While you’re doing that you can shadow with other departments and obtain licensing on the company’s dime. Network hard. Schwab employees are very nice for the most part - don’t let a couple bad apples ruin your idea of it. After 12 months you can move up and out into pretty much anything.

Run…don’t walk. Schwab is an awful organization. Working for them is one of my few regrets in life. You can do much better.
