Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

Ready to wrap it up

Five years and counting. I’m damn good at what I do, but I know I’m never getting a real shot to move up. After surviving the last round of layoffs, I realized nothing’s ever going to change. I’ll just keep working hard to avoid getting cut next time. Rinse and repeat. I’ve started looking around and I’m now negotiating a new job. Here’s hoping the next bunch doesn’t just yank me around too.

Anyone ambitious at lower levels should leave EJ. Promotions at EJ are difficult and we seem to value outside perspectives/talent more than proven homegrown talent. Don’t waste years here if you are the ambitious type. If you want to coast and get a promotion every 5 years, EJ is a great fit.

Good luck to you. It is hard to see talented people leave. Time and time again, I have seen top talent come into the firm stuck under 4 layers of GPs, 3 layers of Directors, and team leader, only to see their good work crushed by layers of beaurocracy where in another world they would be reporting directly to Penny. Moving up in the firm in the current state is tricky and doing good work is not enough.
