I am in Ford Credit Customer Service and the whole dept received an email to list 1st and 2nd choices of other depts that we would be interested in going to. Now I know for a fact that most of these other depts decrease their U.S. employees every year and send the jobs to either India or China, etc. I also know that customer service is the one dept that needs the employees that they have. They request OT to keep up with call volume. I also know that they have a lot of Mexican reps at the Mexico Service center. So is this a trick to just get us in the building so that we bring our monitors, laptops, badges and then give us the 15 minute bye bye emails? Are they sending more customer service jobs to Mexico? Or maybe outsourcing that to another U.S. call center company. It is very odd with all that is going on and with the decline in Ford. Any thoughts?

Whenever there is a skills audit they are evaluating what someone will need to replace you. Anytime anything close to this is being done they are evaluating you, or headcount in general. Whatever they have in mind, its not with your best interest considered.
Just saw this post. the departments that reps are being asked to choose from to go to are departments that a lot of customer service reps came from due to headcount reduction in the last several years. Why would they ask you to go back to a dept(s) that are going away or that those are being sent overseas? Does not sound good.
Good luck, a bit unsettling for sure.
1st choice: GM Financial
2nd choice: Toyota Financial
My Supervisor did not give a reason. The email says it is for skill and previous experience in other depts which some of us do have. Also team leaders and COMS are also on this list but most of the COMS have already filled in their blanks with no interest in other position. They also ask if the employees are willing to relocate. I also know that the depts they list are almost non existent now in the U. S. Sooooo. What’s Up with this?
What did your supervisor say when you asked him/her?
